Bechdel test, passed!
Hey, I finally wrote a story that passes the Bechdel Test! And it's good enough for a professional market!

Duotrope has opened up the writer's market to me and I'm thrilled to have stories in pro-market slush piles. But I still have to read the markets and figure out if I have anything they'll go for. I dislike the process, but it's necessary.

FA+

Incidentally, I note that there's a new competitor for Duotrope that uses a very similar format but is determined to stay free:
http://thegrinder.diabolicalplots.com/
I haven't used it myself, but if people start gravitating there, their information (as far as response times and such) may wind up being more accurate than Duotrope's. I'm figuring I'll see whether Duotrope keeps their price the same next year, and then decide whether to stay with them or try this new one out.
Same layout, same interface. We'll see how long it stays free, and if the quality is good enough.
I don't mind paying for a service like this. Hell, I bought a copy of Writer's Market years ago I don't expect everything on the net to be free. But I guess we'll see if Duotrope really went premium because they needed to, or if somebody just got greedy, if they lower their price in response to Grinder. Something to keep an eye on.
