So let me mention a couple of things in detail which made this con so wonderful.
First of all lots of thanks goes to
Lupercus for letting me crash at his place. It was nice change of pace to only have 2 in one room instead of 4 or 6 ^_^;;.
A special thanks goes to
SydStoat and
LeonicNinja for letting me tag along (most of the time for food) XD and for giving me such so many positive, thoughtful, and funny conversations. I was so happy to get to know you guys so much and just generally have a great time. Also You two make a great couple ^_^ Just sayin! Thank you so much again guys. You trully did make my con experience awesome. The fact that I didn't have my usual Georgia crew that I rolled with made no difference since I had you guys. You guys rock!
One thing that stood out to me was the last minute dance competition that popped up. The Saturday night DJ was the one who ran it. Me
SydStoat and
LeonicNinja all were totally on board. For the longest time we were the only ones that were signed up. The day of the dance came and there were 2 last minute sign ups. I was so happy to see that more people wanted to participate because I feel that everyone has the ability to dance as long as they get out there and try. One of the competitors was a young fur at around 14 years of age. It was her very first furry convention. She seemed a bit timid and shy, but she was determined to get out there and compete. I believe that was a courageous step in her part, and I commended her for it. She got out there and danced WONDERFULLY! She used good levels, good spins, was on beat, and used a good portion of the dance floor. Despite all of this she was still against some tough competition. The rest of us have competed in several dance competition before; therefore, we had more experience. Something awesome happened during judging though. It came down to me and the young fur for first place. First place would be decided based on audience cheering and reaction. I thought to myself "If she won her first furry dance comp today, that would probably make her first con experience a wonderful experience to remember." It would be nice to win, but I wanted her to have an amazing experience more than ever. So when the crowd cheered for her I did what I could to try to get the crowd to cheer louder. The crow d roared for her and she ended up winning the whole thing. I absolutely thrilled for her, and I was grateful the judge and the audience made the right decision.
This event became even better during the Fur What Its Worth Live show. Thanks goes to Roo for hosting such a great show. He had furries come up to the stage to share positive furry related experiences that they have had. That same 14 year old girl came up and explained how before she felt that she didn't have that much self confidence. She wasn't sure she was even going to come to this convention, let alone participate in a dance competition. With increased emotion she explained that when she had won the competition that it proved to her that perhaps she had more confidence than she realized, or rather she had gained it because of our wonderful company.
I was so touched by her words that I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings. If any of you guys read anything Please Read This!. This is generally what I said that night.
I have heard numerous times the same story from a lot of furries. They grew up with challenges or other things that may or may not have caused them to have that much self confidence. I feel that I have gone through that a bit myself. I especially know that those of you who are gay face that trial as well. It isn't easy growing up and knowing that a general amount of people don't approve of or understand homosexuality. Life can be very cruel sometimes. This young 14 year old girl though shows us that even though we may not feel like we have enough confidence, it is possible to still be the best that you can be. All we have to do is think back to who or what told us that we didn't have talents or abilities and formally dismiss it in our minds. When we do that we can start on a new road. A road were we will not be afraid to get out there and dance, despite what others may say, because what matters is who you really are.
I want everyone to know that I don't care what you have gone through or what others have said. I know for a fact that each and every person has a great potential for greatness. Don't let anyone tell you different. You are unique and IRREPLACEABLE. Go out there and show the world who you are. Everyone may or may not agree, but that doesn't matter, because there are plenty out there that will agree.
Ok I know I should wrap this up. All in all it was a wonderful con filled with experiences that have changed my perspective and have made me think how much this fandom really means to me. It also made me appreciate not only the talents and gifts that I had, but the talents and gifts that others have. We all can bless each others lives. All we have to do is give each other a chance.
Thanks again for everyone who made this con special, and thank you if you read all of this! Stay fresh and stay Fuzzy!
