Oblivion and Skyrim: music
It may just be that I've played a lot of Skyrim recently and the music just got old, but I think I very much prefer Oblivion's music. Perhaps it's because it's more whimsical or something like that, but it also just seems more sweeping and energetic. Skyrim's music conveys less energy, and that's not what I feel like it needs. The music is still nice, but I think it should counterbalance the tone of much of the game. Oblivion was full of sad stories too, but the music was optimistic and conveyed a sense of the vast world waiting for the player to explore. Skyrim's visuals do most of the talking in that regard, with some very nice small music tracks triggered on the discovery of some of the more epic sights. Part if it may be that the woodwinds are more prominent in the pieces you usually hear while exploring the wilderness of Oblivion. Still the music in Skyrim seems more...subdued. I think I'll try adjusting the audio sliders to see if that helps.
