I used to have that problem with my artwork when it came to resizing it. Whenever I scanned mine, the resolution was ridiculous (About 6700 x 5700, around in that general area). The best way that I found to resize was using IrfanView. Completely free, and the resizing tool in it is quite good as well, and it preserves not only the aspect ratio (should you want it to stay the same), but also keeps the quality exactly the same. I've found it invaluable over the years. ^^

Also what size is it natively and what size are you trying to shrink it to?

Ah well I have got SAI, so I'll try import it into that.

SAI should be able to do that then. There will inevitably be a bit of quality loss, but that's really inescapable when you reduce the size of something. However, SAI has in my experience much better quality retention than Gimp does when doing any kind of image manipulation.

Just an FYI, GIMP has a few options when it does size reductions, like bicubic or something like that near the bottom of the window. This does affect the quality of the image.

Also, the type of image is also affected, such as if its a jpg or whatnot.

But if you ever have such issues, feel free to send it my way and I'll gladly resize it for you.
