Update on the EQUALITY MARRIAGE BILL!

Bark Bark! Dear Supporters:
Our opponents are getting desperate, and their lies about gay and lesbian Illinoisans and our families are downright outrageous.
They’re flooding Springfield with phone calls and emails urging Representatives to oppose the freedom to marry -- using hurtful, misleading statements like “Same-sex marriage denies children the right to know who their real parent is” to persuade members of the House to vote NO at the last-minute. They’ll do whatever it takes to deny marriage to loving same-sex couples in Illinois.
As the lead sponsor of this bill, I’ve spoken with my colleagues and I know that a majority want to stand on the right side of history and vote in favor of extending marriage to all Illinois families. But I won’t lie to you, our opponents -- led by the Illinois Family Institute and the National Organization for Marriage -- are really putting on the pressure to convince them to vote no.
I need your help to urge your Representative to vote YES on SB10. They need to hear from you -- right now -- as they decide how they’ll vote on the House floor.
Tell your Representative: It’s time for Illinois to become the 10th state to pass marriage equality.
Together, we’ve created incredible successes over the last several months -- we’ve grown support in every region of the state, made our case to lawmakers, and passed the marriage bill with overwhelming support in the Senate. Every time we’ve faced an obstacle, we’ve overcome it because of your commitment to moving marriage forward.
We’ve come this far because your stories and your activism have made it clear that SB10 is much more than just a piece of legislation. It’s about guaranteeing that every family in our state is afforded the dignity and protections we all deserve.
Even if you think your Representative is supportive -- and even if they’ve already committed to voting “yes” -- the stakes are too high to make any assumptions. We can’t let up until this bill is on its way to Governor Quinn’s desk, ready to be signed into law.
Take action now. Urge your Representative to stand with their constituents and the majority of Illinoisans who want the House to pass the freedom to marry.
