LISTEN UP REPTILE OWNERS

As most of you prolly know by now, I'm seriously looking into getting a Leopard Gecko, and I'm in a bit of a dilemma in terms of substrate.
I went to a local pet store and they had some pretty healthy babies living on ground walnut shell substrate... the staff members said that it's safe for the geckoes because they're able to digest the ground walut if they get it in their system. However, I did a quick google search and I got a decent number saying that it's on par with having them live off of sand.
I would love to believe the pet store staff, because if they're right and the gecko could digest it, then cleaning the tank would be much easier (and not to mention you can get buttloads of the stuff for under ten bucks), BUT I don't wanna take any chances.
So, who's right? IS walnut shell a safer alternative, or just as bad as sand?

Best bet is to ask Emalee! She may know. <3

Right, I will, but I'm starting to think that it might not be best? Cuz in the wild they lived off of the rocks and stuff, so tiles might be the ideal bottom... in any case I'm still asking her.

Yeah I wouldn't know, I only know so much about Geckos. I was planning to get a gecko a few months ago but backed down from the idea since I didn't feel they were my type of pet. But yeah, I hope she can give you the answers you need. ;v;
