Maryland is not as bad as everyone keeps saying. Though, Baltimore has been a gang city for quite sometime, but it's still a good city to visit. Especially around the harboor area. I always love visiting Baltimore, since that's where FurTheMore is located. To see the aquarium, the science museum with the IMAX theater, Camden Yards, Fort McHenry, and the resturaunts around the harbor. I'm going to try and make it there since it's about an hour drive from where I live (in DC).

Kio I an the first furry the ever saw at that hotel as I go there for a si fi con int issue is food must drice to shopping center across 8 lane highway.

I'm going to Furthemore, the con you're talking about. It's not in Baltimore, it's a small ways away in Hunt Valley. My roommate is from there, and he knows the area. He told me the place is nice and the hotel is pretty decent.

Living only a couple miles away from the hotel FurTheMore is being hosted at, I can tell you the "sketchiness" of Baltimore isn't really an issue. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, here's a map: http://goo.gl/maps/2uC8M

The area is actually really nice, and there's a lot of great restaurants located right across the street from the hotel in the mall. As :TrekWolf: mentioned above, you do need to cross a high-traffic road, but with the light rail station a few blocks away, there are plenty of crosswalks and signs.

If you're interested in going downtown to see the touristy inner-harbor section, you can take the light rail, but I'd highly suggest taking a car. It's only about 25 minutes down 83, with very little traffic during non rush hour periods. It /is/ possible to take the light rail, but I'd suggest leaving your furry attire behind and making sure to be back on the train before the sun goes down.

As long as you stay out of the City (the hotel is well beyond walking distance) it's typically pretty safe after dark, but don't get caught wandering the city streets at night, even in the touristy sections, unless you're with a group of people that know the area.

TL;DR: FurTheMore isn't really in "Baltimore" this year, so don't worry you're pretty little head about it. :)

Thats.the hotel that Balticon was at for years. been there many times. Its pretty much an industrial park well outside of baltimore. you do want to have a car though, as it is out in suburban sprawl land. It is the best smelling industrial park I've ever been in though. the McCormick spice plant is just a short distance down the street. there is a mall nearby, with all the usual chain stores.

hotel is a big sprawl of interconnected building, no more than three or four stories tall. soundproofing between rooms is, um, lacking. there was a pool and a decent hotel restaurant last time I was there sevral years ago.

If you do want to go downtown baltimore, figure an hour for travel time each way due to traffic and finding parking.

Downtown Baltimore is nothing like the rest of MD, and this con is well out in the 'burbs. Also if you come down for it you need to tell me since I live right nearby and will be there! :D

I live fairly close by, its not to terrible not really any different from Pittsburgh tbh

My only real question about this con is... where is the closest place I can get seafood covered in Old Bay. I see Captain Treys nearby but...I want local opinions.

If you have a car to drive there I can point you in some good directions.

There are a lot of "okay" places around the hotel for seafood, but if you /really/ want something good, you're going to have to go downtown. :P
