The 50 Artist Challenge
I always find myself sitting with pencil in hand like an idiot, with nothing to draw. So I came up with a challenge for myself. The 50 Artist Challenge. Here's how it works.
Think of the artists, cartoonists, animators and illustrators that influenced your style. The creative minds that conjured up the shows and comic you grew up on, and that allow you to tap into your sense of childhood wonder. That is what I did! Then I decided to learn their styles one by one, in random order.
Regardless of the artist, however, I have to complete the same two objectives for each (C is a bonus).
A) Draw one of the artist's signature characters in their style.
B) Draw your character in that style.
C) Draw someone else's character in that style.*
There are a few rules. Each character has to be drawn fully, head to toe (no hiding the hands, which is a good trick in the handbook for lazy artists). Each character must be fully inked. I guess thats it.
I'll list each artist here when they've been completed. If you want me to share my list, I'd be happy to send it in a note. Many of these artists are largely unknown, and deserve to be seen.
1) Charles Schulz (Peanuts)
2) Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy) In Progress
