I would recommend talking with people a lot! Using English a lot will help you learn it quicker. Don't be shy or ashamed if you make mistakes. No one is perfect, even the native speakers can make errors.


And congratulations on popularity! I have to admit you have a very vivid imagination. Original creatures always attract large audiences. Sergals are a good example.

Your english is understandable, which is what matters the most. I've seen improvements, so I'd keep at it Learning a second language is difficult. I have not been able to do it, myself. Plenty of people to help you though! Lot of english authors and teachers around here, myself included.

Well good luck to you. Even though it's my native language, I understand the difficulties of learning a new language as I'm trying hard to learn Spanish. But at least your English is understandable. Unlike some people who speak it as their first language.

Thanks for bringing Sergals to life. They are quite exotic I think. And Im sure if you were to look at yourself a year ago over your English then and now you can see an improvement. Just take it little by little and you will do just fine.

But I can certainly understand your frustration as I recently tried to teach myself how to read Japanese so I could read a Manga that I became very interested in. I never took any classes, just bought lots of expensive books and tore my hair out for several weeks. For all of that I’ve learned to maybe recognize names in a Manga text and that’s about it. One day I’ll get back to trying to teach myself Japanese. But you’re already way better at English then I’ll probably ever be at Japanese. You’ll do alright I’m sure. Just keep up the great work.

Hehe, It is funny, I knew about Sergals a very long time before I even knew who you are. I'm surprised how popular they have become, as well.

Sergals have became a mark on FA as a unique, loved, and feared creature we all rejoice in. And I thank you Trancy for bearing the gift of idea to us with Rain, and the sergal Species.

I'm also glad others look to talk in English as well as other languages, current I am studying, but not good at, Swedish, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, and a little bit of Italian, so I may communicate properly with Gigi D'agustino. (He only speaks Italian).

the grammar of english is especially unusual.

English is apparently one the hardest languages to learn. Also, I did not know that Uncyclopedia had a page on Sergals. I know Encyclopedia Dramatica does, and by they're standards it's almost generous. It was actually partially through their article on you that I discovered you, so it's all good.

English isnt one of the easiest to learn im sure
i cant even learn spanish but as long as i have spell check iv got a great vocabulary in english.....(thats my only language)

Actually, the old Sergals description isn't that bad. I was able to understand everything in it. And from this journal, I can see you've made a big improvement in your English! Keep at it! I look forward to learning more about the Sergals as your English improves.

Sorry if that didn't make sense. I'm still learning Japanese, myself ^^;;

If you want to learn a language you have to practice, practice a lot. So don't feel ashamed to post journals, comments or even stories. Ask people to lend a hand and I'm sure they will give it. In my opinion most people feel honored if a foreigner tries to learn their language, at least that's what I feel .

Some random tips:
- If you use Firefox, Firefox 3 (2 maybe?) has a built in spelling checker, make sure you have the English dictionary installed if you use FF in you own language.
- The Free Dictionary is a good and unlimited resource for English words and mostly includes images to provide an example.
- If you struggle with grammar, use Word or an other word processor to check it. It's not always right, but helps to get you in the right direction.
