Furry is cool now. At least, furry porn is. As a result there's a lot of people in this fandom that are just here for the porn, and in all other respects they don't give a shit about furry fandom or furries or the community that has been built over the last 20-30 years, except that it gets them access to well drawn porn to their tastes. In some cases they're actively hostile to this community while fapping to the very porn that community provides with their other hand. I hate to say this but as soon as I saw the guy who runs FurryArtPile, his LJ icon was enough to tell me that FAP was doomed. A photo of himself. That gay-circuit-party stetson and goatee and wifebeater shirt. He's no furry. That whole FAP thing was basically an elaborate joke played on furries. Which got him access to some free porn and when it stopped being fun he walked away without a care. Because he doesn't and never did give a shit about this community of people, except that it got him some porn. His and his friends' "lol furries" response to him dickishly steering the site into the guardrail was pretty much what I expected. And now, when he pulls off a transparent dick move like his, he manages to blame the pissed off customers, suddenly we're the bad guys in his view. Oh well, he can just go off and fuck hot guys as he puts it.
Anyways what I'm saying is there will be more people like this. As furry grows it will attract money and business. not every one of these sites will have the best interests of the furry community at heart. There will be selfish pricks. The management team of a site, their values and ethics, is the most important thing about it long term. And while I have disagreements with some of FA's technical decisions, I know the management here is on the level and part of the furry community. When it gets tough to deal with us they stick with it. So FA, you rock.
that's all for now, stay cool.

FA+

I've been loathing these leech-people for years. They want our art, but don't think they have to show us even the most basic decency first. It's like coming home to find some naked slob on your couch, eating your food, and he gets pissed at YOU when you tell him to get the fuck out.
Although that's just cause I can't draw x3
Don't have much to offer it though
I wonder how long it'll be before we start getting furry posers who don't have any furry traits at all but pretend like they do so that they could get a feeling of belonging to a group.
I agree wholeheartedly and am not too surprised to find this out about the site manager. The NAME of the site always made me question it. I mean, fap... it's as if it's specifically stating that furry is just porn.
People like this will always be around and will always get away scott clean. Assholes are immune to cancer sadly.
I can't draw very well, but on occassion I will try and draw something for fun and to kill time. I'm no artist and I don't claim to be, but I hope I'm in the right of considering myself as deeply connected to the fandom. This community saved me from going insane the last two years of highschool and is where I found the first people in my life who ever showed any compassion.
I love Furry and what I feel it stands for. openness, art (in all forms both creatively and spiritually), and love.
Sounds a little hippy-ish but then you got vore so it balances out. =3
Life goes on...
If this FAP business went down as you say, it strikes me as exactly the same thing - the hypocrisy of willingly taking full advantage of something and showing disdain in return. "That's for the smut, freak. Go fuck yourself." There are so many examples of this in the world. I have little respect for them.
To be clear, I myself am here mostly because I enjoy the porn. BUT at the same time I respect the work that goes into it, I think there's notthing wrong with it, and I enjoy interacting with artists and users regarding said porn. Sexual self-expression is fairly free and open-minded here. That's a valuable, healthy thing. I try to make people feel appreciated for making this web of primal pleasure possible for all of us; not just because I feel obligated, but because I like to.
So... yeah. If you're here for the porn, treat FA like a friend with benefits, not your ho :D
I've heard lots of arguments why FA is a real cesspool of the fandom, some going so far as to say that Dragoneer is stealing from the donations to the website and using it to pay for comissions. I don't know about any of this, it is all heresay, so I am not saying it's true, but just as much, I am not saying it *isn't* true either. What I do know is that FA does have a rather large tendency to go down, in relation to other sites, and that the "lol, furries" people are everywhere in the entire fandom, you cannot escape.
What's more, what precisely is the fandom about? Is it about liking to draw animal people? or does it mean you ahve to have a totem animal to guide you through life? For me, personally, I am the anthropomorphic fox hermaphrodite, Martifox Anatra, in my heart and soul. I don't know why. I don't claim to know. I simply act as I feel should be the best way for me to act to be happy and to not hurt others. Nor is it a purely sexual thing for me, it is somewhat spiritual as well. Call me crazy or insane or however, but I am simply living out what I think to be the best course for my life.
That being said, what precisely is the fandom? How do people work for it or work against it? In essence, this is a really old philosophical debate dating back to Socrates' teachings of understanding just what things were. These questions of the fandom, whether it is objective or subjective, are things I'm still trying to learn for myself.
P.S. There was no real point to my comment. It was simply a philosophical musing of this situation. I apologize if you had wanted more of an "I think you're right!" or "I think you're wrong!" style of comment.
You don't need a totem animal to be furry, or a furry avatar, or a fursona. You don't need to be a spiritual animal or have a totem animal - I sure don't. What you do need to be a furry is a sense of kinship with this unique and disparate group of people who have come together around this interest. And if you pull something like Ekigyuu did, it proves that he, at the end of the day, doesn't have that kinship. And can walk away chuckling from the whole situation without a care.
I don't know how actually possessing social skills and not being a virgin makes someone not a furry. Wouldn't that be buying into the whole stereotype that the "lol furry" crowd as you put it, seek to propagate?
I dunno. If 15 years here has taught me anything it's this: Furry is a community of often mixed-up people who like a lot of weird shit. They don't always get along and they don't always even like each other's company. Sometimes they don't have much in common with each other except one thing: at the end of the day.. we have each other's backs. We look out for each other and support one another. There's assholes and dicks and drama queens here but they aren't the majority. It took a long time for me to realize the truth of that. And I don't always live up to the ideal. But the best of this little world has a little more love in it than the 'real world'. And when someone casually turns their back on that, well, it doesn't speak well of their personality.
He could have just turned things over to a trusted successor or team of successors and nobody would mind. They'd throw him a party. Instead he chose to exit with the maximum prickishness. It wasn't too cool.
He's vain, shallow and self-obsessed. And, hilariously, photoshops all the pictures of himself he puts online to make himself look beefier.
Naw, really? That's not very cool. : P
Plus he bashes furries endlessly in the same journal.
