April is around the corner and since the March raffle prize is done, it's time to start looking at April's raffle. As I found from last month it looks like one of the keys to maintain a fair amount of participation is to have the journal pimping requirement so I will keeping that in the April raffle. But I have a few ideas for the next raffle and I want to know what you guys think:
First: More specific character selection. I've found that opening my entire character list tends to make things a little confusing. So I'd like to make only certain characters available. That being said, I'd like your opinion on who should be available.
Second: Themed raffle. So far I've only asked for you guys to write what you wanted the picture of. But I've found that most of the time you guys choose to have me and the artist wing it. Not that I'm complaining because I've had great results with wing-it commissions and the winners have been happy with it too. so my question here is what kind of themes would you like to see or do you want me to keep it opened theme?
Third: Donations for more tickets. This would be completely optional and would grant any donators an extra number per a set dollar amount (ie 1 ticket/$1). The benefit to donations would be the ability to commission extra pictures or to increase the quality of artwork. Would anyone donate if I did this? The donations would go towards the artist only which while help in my next two suggestions
Fourth: Artist in need as featured artist. There are plenty of people who are in dire straights and could use financial help. I typically make a point to help those in need and it would put a little more...depth into these raffles in my opinion. Would be for a good cause and the winner still gets free art. Seems like a win win to me.
Fifth: Previous winner buy-ins/exclusions. I'm a little split on this idea since I feel anyone should be able to enter but I also feel it's unfair to my other watchers if previous winners get a second win. Which means i can either leave it completely open and risk a repeat winner, I can exclude the past winners, or i can have the past winners donate for a ticket. The first of these is pretty self explanatory so I won't elaborate. But the other two are tricky. I feel bad if I exclude past winners but it also eliminates the ability to have multiple winners. so my suggested solution is to have a ticket buy in for repeat winners. If the donate a set amount (would not exceed $5), repeat winners would get a ticket to participate. That way if they win at least there was some monetary input versus someone who won again for free.
Let me know what you think on any of these point.I'm starting to get these raffles down to a science so now I'm just tweaking a little. I will announce the April raffle soon!

Also, as agreed this grants you another raffle number for April. What number would you like for your bonus number? can be any number so long as it hasn't already been assigned. You can decide closer to the raffle date if you'd like
For your themed raffle I like to leave it up to the artist to wing it because they can usually come up with something interesting and that has not been done before.
The donations for more tickets idea is a good idea but seeing as the majority of furs are poor it would be a harder thing to do. Though I do think that some people would try for it.
I agree with you. There are a lot of artist who are not as popular who have amazing art and are really struggling in the finance department. Artist who unless they get help will not be able to afford to do art
for the last thing. I think it is fair for your previous winners to get a chance to win if they are watching you and support you. but then again you do have new watchers and people who would love to get a chance for art with you but when your past winners win multiple times it does but back on their ability to get art with you.
Just to clarify, for the character list were you looking at the characters that were available for the current raffle or from the full list that's linked in my journal header (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/678442/)? I abridged the list for the April raffle just to experiment with a shorter list this time so if you like how I did it this time around then i will probably continue that way going forward.
For the last part, I'm right there on the fence with you. Would you find it fair if previous winners had to donate into the raffle? I'm thinking of donations/raffle entries only being $1 that way it's not a hug demand but the artist would still get a little extra.
Again, thanks for your input. As promised, that grants you another raffle slot. What would you like your second number to be? Can be any number not already assigned. Bear in mind that most of my raffles stay under 20 entries.
Also, having multiple winners put into an orgy would be pretty cool.
And I'd be willing to do an orgy pic like that except more characters tends to get pricey. So if I did something like that, you think people would buy into the raffle instead of doing it free?
Thanks for the input. As promised that gets you an extra entry. Feel free to pick any number that hasn't already been assigned. Just bare in mind my past raffles never got over 20 entrants. though with how this one is trending may be a first ^^
Maybe you could have an orgy raffle where the buy in is only $1. Something cheap enough that people would be able to afford, but it would still raise money to pay for it.
Is what I was thinking too! something affordable but would also offset the cost of the orgy.
As promised, this earns you another number in the raffle. So what number would you like?
A wider Character Choice might enhance the range of results
Personally I think it might be unfair if someone who won in one of the last 1 or 2 raffles re-entered, so a buy-in for previous winners might make things fairer
On the subject of buying slots, I think if you do allow buy-able slots then they should be like $15 a slot with a limit of 2
Artist in need, it's always nice to help someone out that needs it
themed raffles, it can spice things up but it might get annoying if every raffle is a themed raffle
So maybe I should have gotten clarification sooner but I'm a little confused. Are you suggesting I give both character slots to the winner or suggesting I let the winner chose any of the fandom characters?
I think that's a fair idea. That way nobody is left out but previous winners have to put something in to participate again instead of getting free works twice.
I may try buyable slots but making them $15 would be a little steep. Might set that kind of price if I am tight on cash or maybe if I can find an artist that's willing to do a ladder style raffle. Since I don't make the art myself I wouldn't feel right charging for slots and only using part of that to fund the raffle so if I were able to do a ladder type raffle that might work. Or a fundraiser raffle for an artist in need so they get the proceeds.
I tend to agree. I like helping those in need, even if it's just a little.
Alright, I can see how it could get old. So maybe doing an occasional themed raffle but leaving it fairly open.
And as promised, this grants you another slot. Can choose any unassigned number. so what number would you like for your bonus ticket?
easiest way would be an opt-out system like "By entering this raffle, you allow your Character to be used in further raffles, unless you ask otherwise"
Alright, 26 is yours! I'll update the raffle list ^^
Also, don't forget to tell me what bonus ticket number you'd like for the raffle. Can be any number after 25
If you did themed raffles, I would say doing the chars as a different species (ie, creating a dragon from a char that's currently a wolf or a cat; etc)
I like the idea of having certain chars open for the raffle, but I would say change it up every month - or only put one male or one female up for the art :)
I like the idea of species shifts. I'll consider it but might be tricky finding an artist who'd do that. But will keep in mind ^^
I've been considering a smaller list. This month went very well considering I only took a small percentage of my characters for April. I may just limit it to 2 or three genders (gotta give the herms a chance too after all XD).
