Ridiculous ingredient name.

If you're anything like me then you check the ingredient lists of manufactured food products as well as the nutrition facts grid, just to monitor what kind of crap you put in your body. I bought some musli bars which has this ingredient listed second:
'evaporated cane juice crystals'
Back home, this particular ingredient is listed as 'brown sugar'.
What a country XD

Similar, but different: I have a friend who used to sell insurance over the phone. He was told never to use negative language. Fair enough, right? Except he wasn't allowed to say what a policy did not cover. If someone asked if something that wasn't covered was covered, he had to list what was covered again.
Aren't corporations fun?
Mawhahahaha!
It's hilarious how creative manufacturers have gotten with their terminology! I'm just glad for places like Trader Joe's :3 it's sooo easy to find foods low in preserves or purely organic for a more reasonable price than most places.
And yeah, there are definatley words food makers loath to use... Another packet listed 'fructose', which while probably accurate (I didn't know pure fructose was an ingredient; or even where it comes from), most people wouldnt recognize the word, let alone know that it's the unhealthiest form of sugar going around.
Is trader joes a supermarket? This is my first time in the US and things are kind of different, so I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to foods here :p. I noticed that you had the healthy furs page linked on your profile... How's your eating plan going, and how do you manage it? Personally, I tend to make my foods from individual ingredients whenever possible to control what goes into my meals, as usually they seem to add sugar and gums and other chemicals... Even to the so-called 'healthy' options.
Yeeeah, fructose and glucose are ones they seem to Love to use >.< Corn syrup in general is horrible for a person's body, yet it's used in practically everything. Sodium benzoite isn't much better for you, but it's such a popular preserve that it can be a real challenge to find anything without it. And of course the latter is one of the things Spirit's allergic to o.o
Trader Joe's is a dream come true for those who like to eat healthy or find things that aren't that easy to find. They're a supermarket, though I have no clue if they're beyond the west coast. Most often than not their generic products taste better than most brand names, though they have brand names available as well. It's soooo easy to find foods with no preserves, and we even found uncured corned beef there (Spirit's allergic to curing x.x Though we wound up just buying a brisket and making it ourselves anyhow since it was cheaper >.>). Spirit and I always have a field day whenever we're able to go, which sadly isn't as often as we'd like. Just make sure you have some funds if you're able to visit one... it's so easy to spend $50 there without thinking much on it.
Healthy Furs isn't as active as I'd like it to be, but it feels good to be able to have the icon on my page with merit. I've learned that it's truly a detox diet, and through a rather painful experience or two had come to realize that 'cheats' are necessary. Essentially when you take something out of your usual eating habits, you're starving yourself of something your body has grown accustomed to. By cutting down to the limitations of this diet, I've gotten back to essentially all a body really needs- white meat (sans pork), grain (oats and rice), occasional red meat, fish, veggies, fruit, and nuts, or at least that's the very basics of all I'm eating. I completely cut out dairy, wheat, nightshade, most red meats, most artificial sugars, and most unnecessary fats. The problem is there are times, with both of us working full time, when I must choose to either cheat or go hungry. I can't skip meals as easily as others because I have a mild problem with blood sugar that makes me frightening nauseous if it dips too low. If I cheat though after being so good for over a weak, my stomach rejects the food after attempting to digest it, and my stomach gets very loose very fast. It seriously sucks. Yet by having an occasional cheat, like say, two meals a week, my stomach never fully needs to readjust. It's true that I'm never Truly and Fully detoxing my body this way, but with an occasional bowl of popcorn or sandwich or piece of pizza or something of the sort, I'm still losing weight at a reasonable pace, I'm taking care of any real hankerings I get, and I'm slowly working the eating plan into my lifestyle. The last is something I can see more and more as I crave the fatty and unhealthy foods less and less. I don't even miss breads and pastas near as much as I thought I would, and I used to be a carb-a-holic. This is such a great sign to me, because when most dieters reach their target weight, they tend to go on an eating binge and consume all the things they craved and avoided during the diet, and gain all that weight right back. But if it's getting to the point where I'm craving the things that are healthy for me anyway, there's that much more motivation to keep this as a change in my lifestyle even once I meet my target weight.
As for the how, I've been taking careful advantage of the salads now offered in Subways and fast food places, though only sparingly. Among other things, the price alone is enough to keep me making most my salads at home. Rice dinners are definitely growing on me more and more, and Grocery Outlet has these wonderful Parchment Fish dinners that are easy to cook. Spirit's the real cook of the house, and he's been helping me find more and more ways to stick to the eating plan and still enjoy what there is to eat. Even when I cheat with popcorn, it's normally from our air popper mixed with olive or peanut oil and a small bit of sea salt.
Wow, sorry for the long rant XD But yeah.
Very nice in all fronts XD. There's nothing like lean muscle mass, hey? I can relate to Amenthor though as there's always just a little too much jelly over the belly to be satisfied XD.
Corn syrup is an American thing, it's not even heard of where I am from. Something to do with the US government subsidizing corn farmers to support local agriculture, since the us isn't tropical enough to have its own sugar cane industry; or something like that, anyway. Its a horrible policy thoug because as you point out, its just horrid stuff. It is in everything over here; but I was expecting that. I try to avoid it but it's hard when you're on holiday. But I can limit it.
Nice on finding trader joes then XD. I don't think theres anything like that back home, but in normal supermarkets the food isnt as consistently rubbish so it's possible to get by without it, though it would be awesome to have such a store. Personally, I also eat a lot of fish, tuna to be exact... I probably have about 500 grams a week, which isn't good as it has mercury in it. I also have a lot of whey protein powder through the week which is also said to have a lot of mercury; so I probably need to sit down and work out a better strategy. aside from that, I actually eat a bit of kangaroo meat - I was put off it to begin with, but it's actually a billion times better than even lean beef. It's like 22% protein and 2% fat, as well as being wild in one of the most uninhabeted regions in earth, do it has no hormones or runoff chemicals contaminating it. I also make my own protein bars, since any you can buy in a store has less protein and way more fat and sugar. The whole fitness/bodybuilding industry is built on the conept that getting fat = muscle gain, which is a farce.
Heh, I went on a bit of a rant too, and now I've run out of time. It can be time consuming writing on a mobile phone XD.
I was curious though, how long are you gonna be in WA for Pax Prime? If it's longer than the three (or rumor has it four?) days, we'd love to drag you to a couple of our favorite stores, including Trader Joe's and PCC. The former I've already told you about, and the latter is a great place for spices and all organic and glucose free foods :3
I'd love to be dragged through those stores, if you;re offering XD.If there's anything that my little week and a half stint in SF did, it showed me how hard it is to eat healthy when you know nothing about the countries food culture/system/brands. I think I ate more sugar in that week than I had in the year to date :(
I also tried a meal at Carl's Jnr. Seriously, ew.
If that's the case, and if Spirit's up for it, I'm sure he'll love working recipes with you. He always has fun in the kitchen XD It'll be fun to show you to some of the prime Seattle locations too <3 Been living in this area for about five years now, and I'm still finding more things to see!
And yeah, Carl's Jr. isn't exactly the best example of cuisine from the states >.< Though makes me wonder if you'd like Pho....
And yeah, I wasn't expecting Carls Jr. to be anything special, but I figured I may as well try some of the local 'restaurants' at least once. I mean, whats more American than a burger and fries? I didn't see a place called pho... is it another fast food restaurant?
Also if you want -decent- burgers and fries, there are a few privately owned places here, as well as an -amazing- neopoliton pizza place :3
And the preservative issue is one I am familiar with. I know with a lot of liquid products it is very hard to get away from, but if you're ever in need of a liquid multi-vitamin I know a couple that are preservative free. :)
Table sugar or sucrose = 1 molecule of glucose bonded to one molecule of fructose. Just a FYI :)
And I'm still so happy for you and your wife <333 That should always come first and far-most! Still, definitely going to be checking through the list of videos on the front page, and try to work things in about my own experiences more.
If Spirit or I think of any questions or topics we would like to know about it, I'll certainly let you know! Certainly curious about the liquid multi-vitamins :3 Specially any that don't taste like rotted chalk >.<
This one is tasty!
As well where in the states are you?
And thanks for the word 'Dextrose.' I have been looking for some pure glucose in the supermarkets, to no avail. I'll try it out with that name XD.
I was in San Fransisco, but now I'm back in Melbourne. Still on SF time though; I just made some protein bars and will soon exercise, its currently 5:15 am :(.
But yeah, as I mentioned above I plan on going to Pax, which will be in August/Septemberish I imagine (though it hasn't been announced so far as I can tell).
So... if that was a serious offer... then I'd love to. I can't parse the end of your sentence, but it sounds fun XD
That sounds awesome man, I'll have to get back to you with some dates later on. I haven't had anything Korean before, now that I think about it.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. But back on topic, I've been taught that the best way for healthy results one should be sticking to non-processed stuff as much as you can. Keep away from most of the different kinds of sugars that pop up in em'. Which works since I could never memorize all fifty six kinds of sugar.
And yeah, you're right about the processed stuff. I used to have the attitude that food was food, but each chemical is obviously different and is metabolized in it's own way, that it really does matter. I tend to make my own stuff nowadays from base ingredients... Wherever possible, anyway.
