So Olympus does what now?

I like action movies. I can even get into the goofy over the top action movies. I knew people who saw the movie "Olympus has Fallen" tell me that it was such an awesome action film. It even had the critics buzzing and using big words in dismay about how bad it was. Typically when that happens to an action film that's a good thing. The critics get their underwear in a twist and break out the lexicon to try to show you how smart they are for not liking something.
So I watched it and ... it was okay. I mean the acting was solid and the direction was solid. It had some good set pieces. Yes there are cliche characters and what not but that can be okay as long as the story is good. Got a foreign bad guy, a bad ass who has regrets about a past failure but will rise to the occasion when the time comes, ineffective outsiders (either they are incompetent or they aren't really in a position to help) and it can work IF the story works and is put together well. This one doesn't quite do that.
When they have their violence going on it's fun. When Gerard Butler gives his tough guy fuck off lines I chuckled. Then as soon as Morgan Freeman and company show up I'm banging my head against the fake desk. They aren't just dumb, they just don't get it. In fact the bad guy's plan goes straight to hell pretty quickly and these idiots don't seem to understand what the proper course of action is.
I know what it is. I'd spill it but I won't. I'd say it's worth a rent because the action is solid (even though they should have really upped the gore, when you get shot by a chain gun you don't stay put together that well) and as long as you focus on that in, I suppose you'd focus on it in a Steven Seagal Under Siege type of film, you can have fun with it and its dumb self.
Hmm... one day I may write about why I can't write. But as of now... I'm out.
