I think it'll be easier to explain it all privately though, than publicly, as it's kind of a two sided thing.
But ultimately, in my point of view, what he is right about is that he basically made the characters as nothing more than fetish/fantasy characters, and unfortunately, when your first instinct is to make them porn stars and rely on slapstick comedy to sell them, it's going to conjure that kind of reputation when it gets mega popular. It's unfortunate for sure, but seeing something like this for a comic like that would've been expected.
It's kind of the issue with the furry fandom, in that in seems to revolve around the sexualization of animals, but nothing more than that, which is the key to why it's such a detested fandom outside of it's grouping (and even within). Finding that happy medium between sexualizing them, while still giving them meaning is the key to making them look good universally, but when it's 100% sex, slap stick, and all, it's going to be subject to harsh criticism.
Now, the guy would've been being too harsh IF the person who created the comic had other forms of story telling and medium that was actually geared towards character development instead of relying on stereotyping to sell (and I kind of mean literally) his characters, and from most people's points of view, it's pretty clear that that's his intention with this comic, to be somewhat of a lesbian sex comic or a sex comic in general, which again, when it's the only thing that a character exists for, it hurts the value of the character greatly.
Now I'm not saying it's an unappealing comic at all, and how appealing the characters are are up to personal tastes, but from a story telling point of view, I'm sad to say, I agree with the critic. Drawing occasional pin ups and having characters be free spirited (as you and I do, as well as few others) is fine, but having a stereotypical set of characters that purely exist for the sake of appealing to the XY chromosome is generally not, no matter how popular you are, and it goes double if you don't have a good art style to at least back up the fact that effort was put into the creation of the characters, despite the lack of creativity in their generation. Much like the music of today that's blood to the ears, yet still mega popular, it's like that one quote said, "What's popular isn't always right, and what's right isn't always popular."
