Middle Tennessee Anime Convention Report
hey... fyi, I am NOT the Youtuber Teal Deer. We both based our name and likeness off a dead meme. I made my character concept first. Chill out, ya bunch of zealous furry dweebs.
The convention was great! Stayed two nights at a hotel with my closest crew of six. The hotel was luxurious.
Half the time I fursuited as my opossum character, Sadie. The other half of the time I was a giant, floating Haunter ghost. I also helped to construct a giant boo costume and a marionette puppet of the dog character, Repede, from Tales of Vesperia for a friend. I'll be posting pictures soon.
The risque cosplay contest was outright hilarious! It was hosted by Eric Stuart(voice of Brock and James on the original Pokemon) and featured a fantastic cosplay of the Doctor, who eventually stripped to nothing but a pair of shiny black hot pants. It was wonderful!
Cons: too many Homestuck characters, too many Hetalia, too many PONIES. It's hard to stand out at a convention if you have the same costume as everyone else. Some managed to be pretty creative, though.
Also, there was an unpleasant 10-year-old Ash who insisted on demanding and snatching candy I was giving out, calling my opossum character a mongoose after he had already verbally clarified that I was a opossum, and following and staring at me, then swatting my hand. Reminded me why I don't want kids.
Pros: Got lots of love for both my costumes; many photos were taken and I got ten dozen hugs. Apparently Haunter was many people's favourite pokemon.
I also got to see many really awesome costumes. I'll post those, too.
As we were on our way out, I floated by Eric Stuart in my Haunter cosplay unknowingly, He apparently first did a double-take then gave my costume an approving nod. I felt very proud.
Next year, I'll be sure to start work sooner on the costumes so I'm not in such a rush. Overall, though, it was amazing! I definitely hope to do it all again next year!
