It took an hour for the first sea horse to show up. But with the smell of cookie dust in the water it wasn't long before they were all over us. We clung together in tight bunches and when one of the rainbow colored bastards would come by we'd start beating and hollering as loud as we could. And then they would bite and those equines eyes would roll back in their heads showing only the white of it like a blanched dolls eyes savoring every second, bronying each and every one it bit with a fury and a blood lust no mere man could endure.
I came upon a friend of mine, Jim Strickland from Cleveland I tapped him on the shoulder and all he did was mutter about muffins and bob up and down, poor bastard had been derped in half.
This went on for two weeks until they pulled us out. So, twelve hundred men on the ship, six hundred in the water and one hundred and forty two not bronied, able to return home with scars to deep to cover. The type that never go away no matter how many bottles of Elmer's you crush.
