Spring is a loverly time of year!

I'm writing this journel to ask about furmeets.
1) What are they like? I have never been to one and I plan on going to one at some point. Do I need to take something/prepare something?
I would go in my fursuit so what would I do? Would I go suited up or would I suit up later?
2) Do you know any?
I line in North West England (near Preston) and the only one I'm aware of which is close is Manchester.
