Pet peeves

I don't have many pet peeves really, but one of my biggest ones is being called hon or buddy or more specifically being patronized in any way. When people get annoyed by something you did and reply by attempting to lower your status in the conversation, usually signified by the usage of diminutives. Or when people try to enter into real talk advice mode but they attempt to lower you in status and use diminutives. If you want to give me advice, use my name and don't allow yourself to become patronizing. It doesn't visibly set me off, but I really don't like it.

They usually don't do it on purpose. The usage of diminutives or condescending tones to position yourself as the elder or more experienced person is usually instinctual.

However, I'd perceive buddy in that context to be a term of endearment.
