THE INTERVIEW ROOM
blueblur8lover1 ::: Why are you an artist?
Artist? where? <,< lol I just draw because it makes me feel good. Cheers me up when I’m sad and makes me feel that I almost can do something good XD. I like to share that with people. There´s no other main reason.
2 ::: What inspires you to draw most of your art?
Animals I have to say. They are my inspiration of all life. I learned to draw animals at first,
I have a passion with anime. When I discover the furry i knew that both could be combined. Now I’m pulling more to encourage the furry more than anime XD I used to draw a lot Sonic fanart because his general aspect was very inspiring to me, when i get tired of it i started with other things.
3 ::: What tools of trade do you use most? Was it hard to learn this tool at first?
I use my pencils of course, most of the things that I do start on paper. Then I use the graphic tablet to complete it. The tablet helped me a lot with my progress, I dunno what I do without it XD. The programs that I use most are Photoshop and Painter.
Using photoshop took a long time, nobody could teach me so I had to learn alone, thanks to some tutorials (once I was in DA) and advices form people online i could move more forward. The tablet is not difficult to use at the beginning but that things need practice.
4 ::: Which artists have influenced you, and how?
Mostly of all Miu and Daria Mcgrain. I know, they make furry porn i was influenced by their style a lot, especially in lineart, style of characters and color. When I started in DA in 2001 they where my idols, now we are making projects together...I still cannot believe it.
In the Sonic style all the people that influenced me are form here. The general fandom tastes influenced me in that time.
5 ::: What other interests do have (besides art)?
Videogames! (in free time of course) and movies. I love to go to the cinema, usually with my boyfriend, and buy cinema magazines. I´m usually interested in fantasy and sci-fi, I used to play D&D (dungeons and dragons) a lot, and I still play it! I really love that kind of stories, I like to read so it´s very fun to me, i read fantasy novels, writers like Tolkien and R.A. Salvatore. Also I like manga and anime, but lately I don´t see it so much.
6 ::: How do you keep motivated when things get tough?
When things get thought I try to see everything from another angle, looking for the positive side of things so that help to get through difficulties and usually works. It is just try to think more and see the bright side allowing surmount the problems. If I’m tired of doing some comic for example, i try to motivate me thinking differently about the characters.
7 ::: When you were in school, did you take any art related classes?
We had art classes in the school, was more fun than anything else, I learned a lot. After finish school I took art classes for two years but i left them because it was too stressful (10 subjects ever 4 months, most of them depended on the delivery of 40 or more complete artworks) ... and started to affect me physically.
8 ::: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I really do not know XD I'm not looking ahead, always try to live the present and solve it now. usually think of the future hurts me, I prefer to wait for things to come. An ideal future for me would be to live what I love doing, I mean draw, that's what we try to do, but I am not definite in that situation yet and I don´t hope to see me there in 10 years XD I’ll try.
9 ::: Could you talk about what you have in mid for your next ‘work in progress’ and what you are trying to achieve with it?
No! is confidential, bah lie! XD what I do on my own is a comic, a long saga, but not so much as to be dense, and entertaining. That is what more I find it difficult to do that I'm just sux doing stories XD
I´m currently working in some projects but I cannot say nothing about them yet.
10 ::: What advice would you give to an artist just starting out?
Never give up! The important thing is to continue on the road and not let anything pull you down, be positive and look forward, treats others as you want to be treated (it's hard, at least for me it is much) but more than anything else keep drawing, because secrecy is not talent, it´s practice, be positive and look forward even if it appears that everything is worthless.
11 ::: Is there any style of art that you would like to learn, if so what and why?
Yes, there are thousands! In first place I loved to learn the style of Carlos Meglia (rest in peace) author of Cybersix XD sometimes I would like to learn a hyperrealism style, or drawing better humans, or Disney style, or develop my own, Actually there are a lot of styles that i like to learn and usually I practice them without stopping, that amuses me and keeps me focused.
12 ::: Everyone has strengths & weaknesses as artist. What are your strong points?
12.If I have to draw furrys animals and I'm happy. are my strong point, more if they are male. It may sound strange but as a woman, I consider it natural XD The pencil sketches are the most enjoyable thing to me, the inking and coloring are a little tedious sometimes.
13 :::What would you say are areas needing improvement?
Drawing humans of course, I also have serious problems of composition, background and color (or all the important thing), and of course a big problem of originality XD
14 ::: Do you prefer working alone or in collaborations?
Alone because I’m selfish person and I need my own times. But I understand the relevance of collaboration and I usually ask for help.
15 ::: Would you consider working along side someone, a writer, to bring a large background to your characters (short stories)?
Of course yes! I did something like that a time ago, but i wasn´t enough experienced, i love to work with writers because, well you know, my "story dysfunction"
16 ::: Do you go to school, if so what is your major?
I don´t go to school anymore XD but I loved literature and history and I did them very well (even better than art classes).
17 ::: What is your dream job and/or goal in life?
Draw for life! Comics or videogame designs will be perfect.
18 ::: What do you do when you’re really sad or depressed about an event that happened to you? Is there a favorite place you go to? A person you can always call to chat?
When I am depressed I like to draw, more than anything, but if I cannot do that I listen music to relax or talk with my boyfriend, is the best person with whom I speak, is sufficiently comprehensive and yet as hard with me to make me see how i can sort bad moments.
19 ::: Who is your oldest character and how many version have you done of this character sine then?
My most oldest character of all time is actually an extraterrestrial named Vesta (such like those gray aliens who kidnap people) and has more than five different versions, sometimes even under different names XD people do not know him too much because I only showed him once and not much, I do not think that he is original or interesting or fun for others (although it is for me) I created him when I was eight and his latest version is for a couple of weeks ago...I’ll never post it of course .
The oldest character of mine that people knows is Evan the red panda (which is even more old than Vash) is more or less from the time that i enter in DA and has only two versions so far. One simple and another more "mature looking"
20 ::: How did you come up with your tag name/ artist alias?
Blueblur8lover was my old name because Blueblur is a nickname Sonic, obviously I left it off.
Edheloth is a word composed of two Elvish words (the language of elves created by JRR Tolkien) is the name of an elf character that I have in some stories that I wrote long ago, when i used to play D&D (very less original indeed) that character, even though is not the oldest, is the basis for most of the characters who i create in terms of personality (except vesta of course) so I decided to take his name as my nickname now, however, i keep signing my works as Blue, because people know me more with that name so, it is everything.
21::: How do you describe your art to people?
I do not do it, I prefer that they see for themselves and ask questions later, if they are not of fandom prefer not to say what sort of things i draw, sometimes I only say "animals" never say anthro or Furries because people do not understand or star to ask more and more things and if i explain more things start becoming ugly, full of prejudges etc, and I do not like to explain, don´t need explanation, just need someone who see it and take their own conclusion.
22 :::How would you define the word ‘success’?
To reach a goal.
23 :::Do you have any personal contacts in the art world? Would you like any?
Artist like Miu, Daria mc grain are my best inspiration. Also I have a lot of awesome friends and artist here in DA who I appreciate and love a lot. Specially Shaniranac, who is my best friend online. <3 to her,
24 :::When did you discover your talent for art?
I dunno... I’ve been drawing all my life, I don´t think that talent was the correct word, skill could be better, when you make something since you’re a child is natural to get an improvement of it, everyone can do it.
25 :::Do you remember your first fan?
My mom and dad <3 of course.
26 :::What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
Drawing, To express my thoughts on paper and then see them and realize that I like how they looks. That is the most important thing for me and if other people like it, that´s even more brilliant, but the important thing is that makes me feel good.
27 :::Who do you feel towards artist who are extremely popular but pay no attention/ignore their fans?
They are afraid. Are afraid because the community of DA is very, very hard, sometimes full of jealousy or envious people, if they talk a lot and there's always someone else who is hoping to make them fall, disturb or destroy its name. Another reason is that their boxes are full of thousands and thousands of messages which take an entire day to respond, then do not respond to none so that nobody feels excluded. and another reason is that they talk badly English (like me) or are not very sociable in real life and cannot find interesting answers to everything. I think that are a lot of reasons to that and I don´t feel disturbed if a popular artist don´t answer my messages.
28 :::Is there any kind of art that you are shy or embarrassed to show on your DA page? Why?
Yes! my character Vesta, because it is very stupid and not very original. Some of my ideas are very bizarre or silly little or absolutely unoriginal because they are based on things I take for movies or TV and mixed to make something new. The people try very hard these things because they consider them stolen art, I take them as something that did it for fun based in things that I like a lot, why would double hard to show them that someone rejected them or criticized harshly.
29 ::: Does your popularity on the Internet affect your work? If so how?
I did it once, when I decided to don´t draw Sonic Fan Art anymore. I was tired that people saw me as a Sonic artist and be popular just because I was doing Fan Art and not by my original works. Now that I am not as popular as before and I do not have so many favorites and watchers now I feel more relieved because I am not bound to anything. Sometimes is hard mostly because one suddenly decides to do something different and it not succeeds because people are accustomed to the old thing. That is very sad, so more than anything else I do not like popularity, even though I love receiving feedback and support from people who really appreciates what I do, thanks to all of them.
