Cyberbullying

What is cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying is a type of harassment using new technology. Whether it is criminal harassment depends on the facts of a case. Cyberbullies use social media (such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube), blogs, texting, instant messaging, and other internet avenues to engage in deliberate, repeated, and hostile behaviour intended to harm, embarrass, or slander someone. Although their work is public, cyberbullies are often anonymous and it is often harder to identify and stop them.
Cyberbullying may also be defamation. The Criminal Code (section 300) outlaws publishing a defamatory libel – material published, without lawful justification or excuse, likely to injure the reputation of any person by exposing them to hatred, contempt or ridicule, or designed to insult the person. But criminal defamation is rare. More common is civil defamation – communication about a person that tends to hurt their reputation. Script 240, called “Defamation: Libel and Slander”, has more on this.
It's happing right now. Maybe even on this site, by members who you'd never think in a Million Years would do something as Low brow and Immature as this.
*Edit*
I don't know if this is going on here, but it could easily happen here. NORE is this journel directed towards any members here so get that idea out of your head, I'm just posting something Informative.
Damn, you know when I was a Kid bullying ended as soon as I stepped off the bus, but these days Kids aren't even safe at home, I can't imagine the level of humilliation these kids have to go through. It's no surpise that some of them take their own lives. Hell, even adults are not immune to this sort of thing.

I can understand some crap feelings and some nights of crying, But KILLING YOURSELF? Sorry, but of all the things one can comment suicide over, internet bullying is one of the most stupid.
At the very less, consider those targeted by Physical Bullying. A punch and a cut hurt worse than 50 morons with keyboards.
Because sometimes the only way for people to actually find support is online. Sometimes they live in a shitty part of the country, or they're shunned by the family, they're not very well off, they have some kind of social disorder or what have you or...they simply can't afford a support group. By harassing them online, this already emotionally unstable person's only outlet of escapism is destroyed basically thus resulting in suicide sometimes. I'm not even talking about calling people out on there bullshit, just harassment period.
" A punch and a cut hurt worse than 50 morons with keyboards"
I think you should have rephrased this statement. So if people were to harass you online, probably get your email and write shit about you using your image, thus spoiling your little me-time and outlet of fun from work and the stresses of life....nicking your neck while shaving or getting a papercut...that hurts worse? :3 I'm not even going to go there.
Look, I know what you're trying to say here and I get it. The internet =/= Real life, if people take things a little more easier then yadayadayada. However I also think that this kind of point of view tends to make people a little bit too apathetic and forget that "oh shit, I'm harassing somebody for real, not just a wall of text, I could actually hurt this person blablah".
Just my .02 cents :3 No worries.
