Inquiry of Experienced Dealers & Artist Alley-ers! :D
12 years ago
Heyheya folks!
Lately (already), I have been gettin' pretty dang excited for Megaplex! Only about 3 months away (still considerably close!!) and boy am I ready to see/meet you all, and suit my heart out even more again! <3
Though, it seems quite a few peeps have actually asked me about possibly gettin' art from me! Flattered and honored at thoughts that is, I at first politely put down such thoughts!
But, more and more, I'm considerin' tryin' out for dealin', at least tryin' for the Artist Alley one day at Megaplex!
Though, aside from simple descriptions on site, I would like to get personal advice/tips from any peeps who may have experience with this sorta thing. :)
First off, would I even be allowed to do this (as I didn't see any age-restriction about it)! :D
But namely, jus' wanna know more into the 'what-dos' and what is acceptable to do!
I'm aware of the 'first come, first serve' basis with artist alley tables, as well as it's best (let alone, necessary) to have examples of what you're offerin' at your table!
I am more of the 'visual' artist as well, so I would ask/require people present refs (of some sort) I could temporarily keep or at least take a picture of!
Past that...I'm clueless of anythin' else! <:'D
I'm thinkin' to only acceptin'....10 slots? Maybe a few more for sketches! Is that limitation allowed? And is it okay for my stayin' at my very table while I finish them, or must I move someplace else to hand to respective commissioners?
That, and I want to know how to handle tax 'n stuff I'm aware the con itself needs to take part of!
Who handles that, etc etc?
Half of my questions probably don't make sense, but overall, appreciate the tip here 'n there if yah may have it! :D <3
I don't wanna guarantee my actual tryin' for doin' the Artist Alley, as suitin', Imma be ADDICTED to at cons! Buuut, if enough people ask/influence me, I'll maybe see yah seated behnd a table! :U
Overall look forward to this con already, hehe!
Thank yah so much again in advance guys, would be interestin' to try this out (even though I know I'm not dealer worthy)! <3

One thing to keep in mind though is how much of other things you wanna do that may take up time (like fursuiting, dance comp, eating, sleeping, etc.). I personally have been guilty of taking on too many commissions and therefore homework prevents me from doing the things I wanted to do or from hanging out with friends. The money may be great, but the con will fly by faster than you know it - so limit yourself to what you want to spend time doing.
I thought that'd be an impendin' factor of some sort! Exactly why I wanna limit myself of what I take to do! Will be sure to compare my work time to my schedule of things I may wanna do then since it's actually been pointed out then!
Thanks JD! <3
The way I've seen the Artist Alley last year, though, actually looks pretty well of a system! :) Everyone was within the hallway for such business, and layout of things was pretty good!
This year with the new hotel oughta be quite different for sure, but I think I'd still like to give things there a try, at least! :D
Specially jus' to get an 'introduced' feel at it (as I'm terribly shy to boot)! <X) So a small con would be a great start! :D
If I can help you at all, ask me whatever you like. The DD and AA at Megaplex are my specialty and I'm happy to give folks a helping hand however I can.
And preorders...another thing to think about right there! :) Will consider doin', more temporary layout for a display given that! :D
Thank yah so much, Gen! <3
If I do end up behind a table this year, look forward to bein' among you guys in sales! <3
And in advance, greatly appreciate any help you may have to give if yah can! For the part of a con you're in charge of, you do a great job with helpin' everyone be on top of their game. <3
If you need someone to brainstorm with, you're welcome to hit me up and bounce ideas off of me. Just tell me what you have on hand and what you have to work with, and I can probably give you a basic plan.
Oh! And get a receipt book or something similar to keep track of sales. You'll be expected to submit it for sales tax.
Ah, will do! I'm still a dunce on sales tax things, as I'm not sure if there's a form, contract, etc. I may need to fill out, but if I jus' need to give my sales records to someone, will do!
If not mindin' my askin', who would I look for to give that price record to? :)
I'm sure more confirmed info and things will come as the con itself draws closer anyhow!
Thank yah so much again, Gen, really helps! <3
Look forward to seein' yah around again! :D <3
Hehe, no worries on that for me though! I'm a minor anyhow, nothin' but general art would be from me. :)
but I know you'd never draw naughty stuff, right? :)
Nor would it be to my preference to wanna draw it! :)
Least as I'm still a minor, anyhow! Routes in art could change when I get older, never know! <3
I don't know if anyone has suggested it or not, but what if you offer Con badges in advance? People could pick them up from you during Megaplex and you'd still be able to fursuit.
Hehe, someone's mentioned somethin' about perhaps doin' con pre-orders! :3 Somethin' I'm considerin' if not doin' the Artist Alley at the very con itself, indeed! <3
