Just got two brand new jets here at the airline and one of them is likely going to need an engine change because some hack installed a blanking plate wrong and chewed up the gear box. The oil looks like glitter gel! Brand new engine and it's gonna have to be changed. DUMB!

OP
The gear box on a turbine engine is the part that drives the hydraulic pump, the generator, the fuel pump and the oil pump. There's a cover that has to be installed on the crank pad for the hydraulic pump so you can run the engine without a hydraulic pump attached to it. Someone installed it wrong and it chewed up the gears in the gear box and the only way to change the gear box is the take the engine off the plane and dismantle it in a shop, then rebuild it. So...engine change on an engine that only had 150 hours of operation on it. Dumbasses fucked up the brand new plane we got.

Not likely. My airline doesn't usually fire people for aircraft damage unless you're a repay offender. But whoever did it will probably get written up and three days of without pay.

What? well, If my employee just cost me a new engine, goodbye.

I've fucked up my fair share of airplanes. Not in a few years, and not this bad, but still...I can't judge. Are you done with A&P school yet? I think you'd have finished by now?

I'm on my last class. AIRC103, recip engines. I've got like 4-5 weeks left. Having a blast. May be heading up to seattle afterward. Dunno yet

I wasn't thrilled with my time at Boeing. It was a combination of the weather and the monotony of the work. I'm a troubleshooter, not a parts changer so I got really bored. Don't accept any job lower than grade 4 or you'll never make ends meet up there.
