Just be yourself, and don't fret about having a million friends. The best friends you could hope to make are the folks who come to you by their own will, and who are tuned into your very own wavelength. The saying my mom told me holds true: It's better to have a few good friends than a lot of bad ones. ^^

What my mate told you holds true, as well. The more you talk to people, the easier it gets to open up. Admittedly, I used to be a very withdrawn individual myself, and I had a hard time overcoming it because I didn't trust anyone.
