I have been abusing my body somewhat lately. For starters, a couple of weeks ago I had my remaining upper teeth extracted. Seven of them in one sitting! They were broken and mostly not worth repairing, and it was a better strategy to replace my partial denture with a full upper one than to try to save them. However, that means that I have been unable to chew properly since then. My partial denture no longer has anything to hang onto and is more a liability while eating than a help. Except for the two that were extracted due to the toothaches a while back, my bottom teeth are salvageable, although it looks like I am going to have to have a root canal and crown done on one of them. My wallet is whimpering already, and I'm only halfway through the treatment plan. However, by the time I come over for Anthrocon, I should have everything fixed and be able to eat properly again for the first time in months.
The second abuse of my body was far more serious - I almost broke my neck. My fault, of course. I was leaning too far back in my desk chair while watching a video, and a wheel collapsed. I went flying backwards and struck my skull on the side board of my bed just slightly above the neck. Just a little lower and I could very well have been crippled or killed. I fell heavily on one side, digging into the armrest, leaving me with a very large bruise mark on that side. I came through a little dazed and sore, but otherwise okay. My old chair had metal legs holding the wheels, while this newer chair only has plastic and can't take the strain. Lesson learned.

FA+

Lucky for me I only need to pay $50 per time, but the wait time between each is at least a month.
As for the chair thing, I picked up one from office works and three months later, a leg broke sending me backwards, but I didn't hit anything.
At least nothing worse came of that.
Look on the bright side--at least you don't have bone splinters and incompetent dentistry that requires you to spend 10 trips and still not fix the problem while the dentists hate you!
I guess we all did things that weren't that good an idea afterwards, and maybe will do some more until the lid closes.
As far as teeth go, I recently had my remaining top front tooth suffer a hidden fracture, which caused me excruciating pain for several days until I could see a dentist. Got half a root canal done, then the fracture was discovered, so I ended up with a thick wire across my teeth to hold it still for a month while it healed, then the root canal finished a week ago. I have to be careful still about biting, in case I break it again. And if I bite down too hard I can feel it, but I'll live with it.
Glad you're okay, if a bit sore. I think someone once said, pain exists to let you know you're alive.
And, aye, dental work always tends to get pricey.
ebil dentists!!
Bad chairs too!!
Careful there.
Seriously, teeth are nothing but trouble. Whenever anyone talks about the perfect design of the human body, I always point them to the fact that teeth were obviously designed by a drunk monkey scrawling the design on a piece of toilet paper with a box of crayons while sitting on a trampoline during a major earthquake! Those things just aren't made to handle the work they're supposed to do.
I'm kind of in a similar situation actually, so I can relate to your difficulties with them.
*sigh* I hate teeth so much...
You hold on, shir. Michigan awaits.
Seriously, part of the reason I want to go to AC is to see you! It would suck if you got hurt and couldn't attend.
Looking forward to when you visit. :) I hope when you arrive all of you in still in one chakat chaped piece.
