interesting... i gotta say, the docco seemed pretty forgiving about the whole thing, it couldve been spun much worse.

not sure what issue people would have with it.

Perhaps it was hitting too close to home for them? The familiarity of the situation makes them uncomfortable? They see themselves in the interviewed subjects and feel misrepresented? Personally I feel it was a fairly straight forward documentary that showed little bais.

I agree with your view of it, but i dunno, why are they so bothered about seeing themselves up there?
honestly yes they seem a little socially awkward, but it did not make fun of them at all.

Vicarious embarrassment? Personal guilt and shame brought to the fore by seeing other people be so shamelessly open about it? I struggled with such feelings for years. Led me to be vehemently opposed to any kind of public representation of therian, otherkin and furry culture or any association with them. I was one of those "Yeah, I identify as an animal but I'm not one of those people" kind of guys.

The feelings still linger, I could feel it twisting in my gut from watching the first few moments of this doc, an initial knee jerk reaction that I get over quickly enough. But it's still there none the less.

i kind of feel the same way about the whole furry thing i gotta say. as much as im part of this community, i do sometimes cringe at seeing it represented.

it seemed really sideshow-y "look at these freaks, know you're normal, you're not them"

haha, I'm pretty sure that's the premise of the entire series.

it doesn't say being abnormal is a bad thing though.

-shrug- doesn't change that it's really gross. I mean, think about your statement "bless their little furry socks". Are you now not /really/ a furry? Are you somehow at a better vantage point to "see" what they are experiencing than they do? Why does the viewer/documentary maker have more of an authority on what it means to be a person who has that experience than the person having that experience? Why are they telling this story, what aren't we seeing? Just gets the wheels turning in my head a little.
