Yeah, I've been to Califur once. It wasn't very well organized, the nearby shops were limited, and it seemed difficult to find the panels. Maybe I'll return when they get their shyt together..
Thats good to hear that a furry's platoon had such a positive response to his suit. Unfortunately, my rave daughter was not welcomed so much. It's been several years and a couple transfers since she stopped wearing her tail and ears on the base, but still occasionally seems to pop up among her co-workers. I would say there is quite a big difference between supporting those of the fandom in the military, supporting our troops, and being pro-military. My father is also a retired veteran, and I'm proud that he was fighting for his country.. But do I support the idiots at the top that are continuing these wars over oil? No.
Reno is kinda ghetto. Not in a blight and squalor way, but in a redneck sorta way. There are quite a number of intolerant bigots who roam about the city. I always feel like I have to watch my back when I'm downtown. I'm not surprised about there being a confrontation. I am surprised that there weren't more.
Still, I'm a bit bummed that I couldn't make it; wedding trumps con. From what I have read, it sounded like it was really amazing. My guess it that it was the core FC cool kids & old school club -- which is why I really wanted to go.
If you don't already know carson10us, he may be a good person to talk to about the overseas military thing. He was stationed on a ship and spent a great deal of time abroad.
This is the first I've heard of any sort of assault scenario. That's really awful. I got a few odd mutters in an elevator by some possibly drunk and generally angry looking people (more about me hugging someone else while we both wore tails), but other than that got nothing but smiles and questions from the non-furries. Luckily, it still sounds like that was the case for the majority by a longshot. Overall I had a wonderful time, and can't wait to go back next year. This one definitely looks like a keeper.
but yes... the con was amazing aside the people that were "interesting" I got a lot of chicks digging the suit and giving little kids high fives or fist bumps, I really enjoyed it! I can't wait for next year!
I know you will Patch, 80's!!
Thank you for your honesty and reporting the good and the bad. people need to understand safety in numbers regardless of how safe or strong they think they are... Even when I was in the military, they told all of us to have at least one other when traveling outside the base. It makes sense to have someone watching out for you as well as you looking out for them. It heightens awareness of surroundings and situations.

If you don't already know
I hope to make it next year. We'll see.
Well, at least the last time I visited. Can't remember when that was...
Personally I'd think I'd enjoy the Reno convention more than if there was one held in Las Vegas. But that's just me.
Great that you had a good time and that for the most part it went so well! It's what is so fun about being furries with a fursuit!
