Pr0n vs Notpr0n

Because everyone and their mum and their dog and their pet bacteriums are doing it.
In 99% of cases, I don't like porn. Not in a moral sense like OMG THAT'S FILTH COVER IT UP but more in a 'meh, that's unnecessary and badly drawn and unrealistic' kind of way. Thing is (and my work is no exception here - talking about myself as much as anyone else) porn is drawn to be just that - porn, and it being fap material means in most cases people will blatantly ignore anatomical possibilities and even just decent artwork because if you post cock, you WILL get buttloads of comments and favs and commissions.
Porn pictures do absolutely nothing for me personally. I don't have many -real- kinks (in the sense they turn me on) at all, depsite a lot of the material in my gallery, which was drawn on a whim, because I thought other people might like it or because I thought the situations were artistically interesting, like the bondage stuff I did. I found it much more interesting getting the balancing believable and finding space to insert things than the actual porn-ness of the pics at all, and funnily enough - that attitude IMO is one that leads to better quality porn XD
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that if you're too busy getting aroused over a pic you're working on, you're much more likely to ignore errors because the pic serves its purpose already.
Now - as to what I do like. Truthfully, I keep my own kinks to myself, because they're really quite specific to me, and not something that I think a lot of people would think of as sexy. No, they're not illegal or dirty or anything sick, they're just something I've not ever seen porn of, and even if I did I don't think it'd do anything for me unless the scene was well planned out and well drawn enough that it flowed well as an artwork as well as catering to my particular brand of rawr.
No, I'm not going to say what I like, I'm one of those weird fuddy duddies that thinks if you've got a special weird and personal kink, you should keep it personal - it's MUCH more potent that way.
...
Hehe! Wow, sounds like I'm on some tall pony here, but really I'm not trying to be condescending - heck, I draw a lot of porn. I like DRAWING porn. I do! I just don't find it sexy in all but a few select cases. I keep drawing it because, frankly, if I didn't I'd fade back into the woodwork like all artists around here that decide to stop drawing smut, because no matter how good your artwork is on a site like this, you're not going to get paid for it if it's not fap material. You can get on any high horse you want saying 'if you're not getting commissions for clean art it's because you're a crap artist!' but really? that's a load of fresh steaming bullshit. Look around - you'll see people have commissioned freakin' sonic screengrab mspaint recolour porn. I shit you not - it's out there. People commission that kind of material but don't commissions really amazingly talented -professional- artists (NOT ME. NOT TALKING ABOUT SELF, I'M LEARNING DAMMIT) just because they don't draw porn.
So! I don't like porn, but I do draw it, because it's necessary to keep me in work as a mediocre artist. Maybe once I improve enough that I feel I can make money to warrant it, I'll stop drawing porn, but that day I feel is far off and so in the meantime, I'll stick to drawing what sells. Blah.

GOD YOU'RE SUCH A PREACHER
GOD
( Sarcasm BTW :P )
I, for one, am enjoying seeing other peoples' opinions on this matter! Some of them tend to be surprising :)
And you're far from a mediocre artist, stop calling yourself that. Hey, at least you can DRAW porn - there are some of us sad little artists out there who just... can't figure out "penis goes where?"
GET UR OWN DAMN PONY D:<
:P
I so am mediocre dammit XD
Lots of good things here. I *do* enjoy porn, but I'm completely with you in the desire for it to be well drawn. The pieces I like most are great artistically. The anatomy is correct. There's flow and balance and everything else great art needs.
