Curious idea that someone brought up to me

So, a week or so ago, I was talking with a friend. after talking for a bit they told me that I was fun to talk to, and that I am understanding, things like that. Of course, im paraphrasing but not the point. They also felt that I should be popular because of it. I replied that people on FA are not popular because of their personality, but their art. Well, this got me thinking and I wanted to see what the masses, small as it is for me, think on this idea:
Can you be a popular fur, for simply being a person that is there for others, or because of the type of person you are?
now i don't need a response, this is just something that's been on my mind since i talked to my friend, and I was wondering other's opinions

I think there are definitely two groups out there--the ones here to enjoy being here and the ones here to "do business" (in one way or another--i.e. selling art, doing porn art, etc.)...or at least that's what it feels like to me. *hmmmmmmmmm*
But it seems most other times it's just about the persons art(and more specifically porn), which is kinda sad cuz I've met many nice people that don't really draw much, if at all.
And I've been told the same thing too X'D. I've had strangers come to me for advice and wanting to talk about their problems.
Or when they ask for specific advice and then just keep on doing what makes them miserable. Bah don't be depresed when it happens; just let them go about their lives and realize things themselves.
