The thing with closed betas is that whether they're chosen by lottery or by actually making people pay to get in, it just comes off to me like this.

"Congratulations! You have the privilege of playing our buggy mess of an unfinished game! Have fun being our unpaid playtesters!"

And I dunno, that just seems sleazy to me.
