Large Flat-bed scanner needed!

I love StrRedWolf's CanoScan. But I need something a bit larger. >.> We work over here on 10x14.25 Manga Layout boards...so I would LOVE an 11x17 scanner or so. JUST a scanner. USB. Heck, if someone knew how to update an old Astra UMAX 1200USB using SCSI connections, I'd be ecstatic. Damn thing is over 12 years old and STILL scans a righteous pic. But the dinosaur mac is being problematic, so i need something on the newer Imac. >.>

Two alternatives spring to mind:
1) Get a good high-resolution digital camera, one that can take professional lenses, and put together a jig to hold it perpendicular to a flat surface, with some supplemental lighting, you should get good results from the 'photoscaning.'
2) Get a normal-sized scanner that can detach the scanning head from the document bed, these typically come with software for 'stitching' an image together from a 'mosaic' of smaller images.
Hope this helps, dear.
The majority of GOOD, CCD based scanners in the size you want (16" and up) *start* at $500, typically.
Fully professional, artistic/professional/photography scanners in CCD and large formats exceeding 16" start pushing 4 figures, easily.
*IF* All you do is perfectly flat, small grain paper scans of pencils - hell, pick one. You really cannot go wrong. If you scan colors with any desire for clarity, presentation and textured surfaces (I.E. Oil paints, collages) look into a CCD, they can scan sharp up to 2" away from the glass plate.
If you desire to work with anything larger than 17" however, start to look into a decent "Prosumer" compact digital camera or a camera body/lens combo and a small tripod. Photographing with a decent rig at that point will be more cost effective than a large format, glass bedded scanner...
Good luck, and cheers, loveliest. ;D
Right now, Amazon has the one I've got for $179.99: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006Y7WZG0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B006Y7WZG0&linkCode=as2&tag=bljp-20
Or, if you want to ship things over to Phoenix, I could certainly scan things in for you, so long as you have a nice, sturdy mailer.
