Your first video game + memorable moments
12 years ago
My first game was Star Wars: Rebel Assault. A rail shooter. I remember my dad got me a joystick specifically for that game. I also remember the canyon run in Luke's t16 Skyhopper was hard. I only beat the game years after I first got it, but the disk got all scratched up and I could never play it again.
Then I got XWing, and that game was super tough. I never got really far in that one. But theeeen I got Tie Fighter. I remember it well. It was on floppy disk, and unlike XWing it didn't require a password every time you got on... I enjoyed the lucasarts newsletters the previous owner had left in the box... Sam and Max. Lol. I remember being so proud when I received the mark of the emperor. Beat that game. It was easier than XWing, and by that time I had a sidewinder joystick.
Most of my early games were Star Wars games, and only on PC.
Then I got Jedi knight, never got really far early on, beat it years later. Tried the demo for the original dark forces, was freaked out by the garbage tentacle monster. Years later bought and beat that game.
By that time I had need for speed II...
Later got Jedi knight II Jedi outcast... That game was so much fun. I remember watching the lucasarts website for updates as the game was being made.
And ughh, I remember XWing alliance. I got all the way to the Death Star mission and was so proud of myself, but I could never figure out how to escape the Death Star as it blew up around me. My computer later died, and I played through again, never finishing the Death Star mission. Now it won't run on any of my computers because it's so old :( it was such a good game. I miss Star Wars flight sims. God, so much fun. I have a huge collection of Star Wars pc games. It's really sad to me that lucasarts is out of business right now. I hope that we get good games in the future, but I doubt it. Look at the awesome looking game they canceled. Ugh, burns me up. Checking in on the lucasarts website had become a tradition of mine. Now I won't have that anymore.

Oh yeah, and I remember when she made us bust our guild wars disks in two because of the evil magic in them. My sister, who called it out, was the one of us who actually later finished the storyline of the game, including all of the expansions. That pissed me off. I do t even remember how she got them, but she did, and she played them. I was jealous of her, but also burned up about how she discussed her spiritual concern about playing a game with magic in it. So stupid that was. But yeah. I found out the game was still mine with the account and all, downloaded it again only a year after having had it taken away from me so cruelly and ignorantly. And she got back on and got the expansions, too. Grr.
Next one were Secret of Mana my first SNES game. Second game were Breath of Fire 2 my first SNES game with english text. It was good for learning english because uhm well how should I have beaten it without knowing what to do next.
Aside from trying to create the perfect team of six in Pool of Radiance ... I'd have to say my most memorable early gaming experience was Dragon Warrior III. It was the first Dragon Warrior game that let you build your party. The game was fun to power level, even if you could get in over your head when things went open world on you. Still, it was a fun game, and with the throwback connection Dragon Warrior it had a deep story for it's age even with an entire party of voiceless characters.
Of course, then they went 180 in the other direction and did Dragon Warrior IV. If Dragon Warrior III was fun because you got to build your party, IV was fun because everyone in the party was interesting. They all had character and some reason for being there, with the only weak reason being the merchant, but he had the most character of all. Honestly, running your own shop? That was fun. The story arc probably spawned the whole shop crazy we occasionally enjoy today.
Of course, then comes the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis era, and while I enjoyed the Final Fantasies, Chrono Trigger, the Phantasy Stars, AND Lunar... but before that, my grandfather saw his kids interested in video games, so he looked around for the best... and the best just happened to be the TurboGraf. Of course, being the best isn't worth much if you're not priced competitively, but I got some good gaming memories out of that system. Dungeon Explorer (I & II), Neutopia II, and Loom... those are a class of games we don't see enough of.
Other than that... I remember being really psyched for Final Fantasy VII, and how that game alone influenced my families choice to go to the Playstation. Everyday before school I'd pop in the preview VHS that we got from I don't remember where, and just watched what was to come again. The game itself was of course memorable, but it was the way I managed to keep myself hyped up that formed the personal memories.
Other personal memorable moments... playing Mario 64 and Banjo and Kazooie on my now step sister's N64 was part of what told me that I actually enjoyed 3D platforming. Pity she didn't actually own Banjo, so we'd always loose progress on that one when it was returned to the rental. Of course then the Playstation 2 came along and we got Jack and Daxter and eventually Ratchet and Clank. Those where fun platformers.
The lamest game ever Dark Souls.... There ya go.
First game was a first impression of the industry and I fell in love with it. The controls were tight, the objectives were clear, and you got to play as a snugly, fluffy fox.
Most Memorable Game- Tie between Legend of Dragoon/FFVIII/ and Persona 3
Each game brought me an immense love for video games as well as keeping me enthralled with it's story and characters to the point where I everyday I had to know what happened next.
Take your favorite book and movie and combine it into a game and that's why I loved these games.
Best Game with the Worst Execution- Operation Darkness...
A game where you play a group of Supernatural characters (2 are werewolves), and the objective is to punch Hitler in the dick!
This game had so much potential in the dick-punch department, but it was just a sadly mediocre game.
Worst Game I've Ever Played- Haunting Grounds (PS2)- This game committed the ultimate sin in gaming... IT... WAS... BOOOOOORIIIING!!!!!!! I played for 5 hours and saw 1 enemy in those 5 hours. Boring Story! Boring Characters! and just a Boring Game!
Also, Redrodent, what do you think about this game being produced? You get to play as a squeaky little mouse XD

I also had Super Mario and Duck Hunt. Kiwi Kraze was also one of my favorites.
I remember Yoshi's Story for SNES, as well as Claymates, and Uni Racers.
Banjo Kazooie and Tooie from N64, Starfox 64, Mario 64, and 007 Goldeneye.
I very briefly had an NES, and the most memorable game I had for it was Friday the 13th. I remember that I was able to play it up until my first encounter with Jason, at which point I freaked out and scrambled across the room to quickly turn the system off before he could get me. ^^
I was like 3.
the NES broke down a few weeks after that, and it was a few months later before we got our first real permanent game system a sega genesis.
from there my first real game experience was Sonic 2. I always enjoyed the vibrant colors and fast gameplay. Although I wasn't very good at it. It took me the longest time to gain the coordination to get past level 2. ^^;
