Don't worry too much, most mental hospitals are not bad places. They are just like any hospital, a place where someone can get the care they need on a more constant setting than outside the facility. I was at one once (severe depression) and it actually helped me more than I ever could have on my own. It's not like being at home and I understand that but don't be too scared about it.

Plus the food, is like ridiculously amazing at mental hospitals! The place I stayed at had home made Amish food for all three meals, a salad bar & Amish ice cream. They give you a lot of comfort food, because it helps.
