WARNING! Rambling post of useless trivia! Factoids ahead.

Lobotomies sever parts of the brain from each other to make them ineffective. Ham-fisted lobotomies basically turn folks into drooling vegetables, though some delicate ones can have only a few minor effects that recovery therapy can solve. Like relearning skills and stuff. It's main goal was to sever the prefrontal cortex, which is a center of higher thought, and the side effects follow suit with that. Most lobotomy patients can't function independently anymore due to a loss of initiative and inhibition, as well as loss of clarity of cognition and empathy. The severe side effects were more common than not.

Still wouldn't want a lobotomy though. Its an old-fashioned way of solving a problem simply by removing it. You can't fix it, so just rip it out, heh. Many ways to better treat people these days. Lobotomies have pretty much been stopped in general worldwide since the 70s, and people have spoken out against them since the mid 40s.
