One of my cats is probably going to die.

Tora is in the emergency vet's at the moment. He collapsed some time Saturday, and I didn't recognize it as a medical problem, I thought he was just tired from the trip to the (regular) vet.
His kidneys are failing or have failed. He was dehydrated, and his various blood levels were all screwed up. They've got him on IV fluids.
If he lives, he's going to need special low protein food and to be in the vet probably a couple of times a week for the rest of his life. I don't know how he'll handle that. If quality of life gets too bad for him...
I don't want to euthanize him. I've had him all his life and almost half of mine. but if he's aghoing to be miaasterable I'd rather do what's best for him than to kepe him in pain and unhappiness.
I'm also losing my job at the end of august. But I will support him as best I can asd lon as possible.
I pretty much have no local friends. these cats are my family. they're 16 years old, and i' mgoing to sloe them and wi don't qwikno what to do.

He seems to be doing better... he came home from the emergency vet for an hour (they close at 7a, the regular vet opens at 8). I brought him in, set the carrier down and opened the door, and sat in front of it. He got up and wobbled over and climbed in my lap and got cried on for a bit. Then he drank some water and went to the litterbox on his own, came back in and drank some more water, and slept on the side of the dish so his face got all wet. Took him to the regular vet and she looked him over; he still needs more fluids and hasn't been eating, so they're holding on to him now.
I called for an update, a few hours after I dropped him off; he'd actually eaten some by himself. So he's doing better... and if he does need extra IV fluids to stay hydrated, it's something they can show me how to do so it can be done at home, instead of having to take him in and stress both of us.
Taking the other cat in for her second appointment; she had some skin problems and was given a steroid shot and some antibiotics to clear that up, and now will be looking at getting the vaccinations she needs. Have to admit I'm a little apprehensive... Tora got vaccinations, and three days later his kidneys stopped working.
