I agree. Also, a dragon may have tentacles, 4 eyes, feathered wings, or not. But he or she or shi is still a dragon. A Sergal is just a similar case. Different Sergals in different people's mind. I would try to draw the new Sergals, too.

Plus, I think what Rain is to Trancy like what Windy is to me. Others can see I keep changing Windy all the time. 2001 Windy had feathered sub-wings and was white in color, 2002 Windy had 2 pairs of dragon wings, 2003 Windy was much smaller, and her mane color changed from blue to purple. I did these changes just because they made me happy.
I think Sergals have no breasts because the setting tells they're a kind of raptors, the same reason I think dragons have no breasts. There're mammal dragons anyway, especially the anthro ones. Sergals are anthro enough, so nothing would be wrong.

Sergal are of your design, not anyone else's. You can do whatever you please.

Oh, I never heard something about breasts. It's like Slain-Dracon said: For me sergal were just more reptile not mammal. I've designed two storys where dragons are one of the main cogwheel and I know about the problem to create a "knew" anatomy + biology, especially someone want's to square fantasy with science.
For me it's also hard to get a precise imagination because I just don't know enough of sergals, rain or co. Perhaps others have that problem, too. On the other hand there will be always people doing things with own ideas you'll not be glad about it. It's a waste, but it's the way the world seems to be... -,-

I think that's kind of what drew me to her, was that she was more like a monster than just another anthro version of an animal, and the lack of breats kind of helped make her more nightmarish, I guess. But, of course, she is your character, and you have complete creative control.

I always thought Rain had a very nice shape.
I always liked the way she had that tentacle down there, and how it seemed like a long, flexible clit, letting her get more pleasure from sex.
Her personality as far as being sexy is already there; she has those sexy eyes and that way of moving and acting that does more than any body part.
The feathers are a nice touch, I think! ^_^ Having them on my own persona makes it a pleasant surprise to see on Rain now.

No creation exists independently of its fanbase; this is a sad truth, which there is value in understanding. I hope her popularity doesn't cause you problems when you change character designs. You can (and should!) do as you please with her design.

I thought - wrongly, clearly! - that her (species's?) lack of obvious breasts and nipples might have been compensated for by specialised / exposed patches of skin, perhaps in a way similar to the way a female echidna [日本語] with young lactates. Maybe those spots on her neck? But then again, maybe it serves to distinguish scary-warrior Rain from a possible nurturing-mother Rain. Hmm.

Whatever the explanation for her form, and however that too might change, I'm certain you'll settle on something interesting, alien, and engaging.

I think that as an artist you shouldn't be swayed by other peoples opinions, and I know its odd but I want to share my view on the Sergals. I randomly found pictures of Rain and fell in love, and the sole reason was that she was unique, a refreshing fantasy created by an amazing artist. I loved the changes you made, and I understand your desire to evolve her as a character and create your own unique species. Getting rid of the "pussy tentacle" was a little odd at first, but that was only because I saw it as a unique characteristic of the female Sergal, it defined the females of your species for me. Whether or not you keep it will not make me love your Sergals any less. Also I would like to add that I rather like your idea for their evolution in giving them feathers, which defines them even more as a species, and adds a lot more characteristics as you showed. As for the breasts, I'm happy that you want to distinguish the female traits of your species more- I'll respect your decisions and no matter what changes you make I will always love your Sergals.

I still dislike the feathers and the thicker tail, it just isn't the same. The look of them looks more like a harmless chicken and not a fearsome predatory beast.

I've been a fan of sergals for years now. I understand that you have the final say in your creations, and that you should definitely draw what makes you happy, not just what other people want. But please. Please. Please change them back.

The old design. The one without breasts, with the thin body and tail is the design I fell in love with. It was alien, horrifying, yet oh so wonderful with it's long limbs and digits, it's slender form, it's fast, dextrous body...

This thicker, breasted and bird-like form has taken away practically all appeal of them to me.

You asked in the picture's comments if we would like a "fixation of settings" or a standardization of Sergals. I think the answer would be yes. Sergals are something I love because I don't see them as sexual objects. I think they're less about sex, and more about being pure, unadulterated awesome. They're a wonderful group to have in campaign settings.

GURPS, D&D, any widely used fantasy or sci fi based setting can have these guys in it, and I try to put them in whenever available because A) they're wonderfully interesting and B) they have a distinctive look that people automatically fear.

A chicken's rear end, they do not fear. Instead of saying "Oh jesus, that thing is going to eat me" they say "Look at that ridiculous thing with breasts and feathers."

The new sergal design is comical, not scary. While I will respect Mick's decision to draw this new design if he decides to continue, I will always prefer the original design. Really, more of what I would like to see is just Mick saying "Alright, usually Sergals look like this" and point to the old design. If he says "Sometimes, however, I like to draw them like this" and points to chicken-butt rain, that's fine too. I just want to be sure that the original design is still the standard sergal design, not this ridiculous creature that looks more edible than capable of fighting.

If you want to keep using the old version for your D&D fantasies the do it. No one is going to stop you. But he shouldn't have to change his character to your whims because you want to play DURPS with her. (kinky) If I were to facepalm any harder my hand would go right through my head.

Anyways, he asked for opinions, he wanted to hear if we wanted the standardization of the race or not, and so I'm doing as asked and providing an opinion. I agree with everything kirn said. The original design was the best (subjectively speaking of course). I also think there should be some rigid standardization, if only from the perspective of usefulness. I wanted to use some sergals as NPCs in a GURPS game but coming up with attributes and stats for them while maintaining canon is nigh impossible if canon keeps changing. Love your work, peace out.

Once you release a concept and an artwork like this to the public, it becomes a part of the collective consciousness and takes on a life of it's own. Certainly you have the right to draw whatever you want. However, people have gotten a certain image in their mind of how a Sergal is and if you change it it's not going to be accepted very easily, especially when it comes to the things that made them unique, the flat chest, the prehensile hood. If you keep only drawing them this way and this becomes the new "official Sergal", it's going to split people between those who like the new style and those who hate it, and splitting up the fanbase is not gonna be good for Sergal lovers of any kind.

I hope you'll clarify that this is not a permanent change for the Sergal and continue to experiment with the new style whilst maintaining that the old style will still be around and drawn in the future. It would also help if you stated that the old style is still the official way that Sergals look. This will help people enjoy the new style without freaking out about the possibility of Sergals changing forever in a way they don't like or never getting to see you draw old-style Sergals again.

Well, I'm somewhat late to comment, and I'm probably just repeating the same logic as many other people here.

I think I agree with you on the tentacle part. I once saw a picture showing that it kinda tucks inside her when it's not in use and it seemed to make some kind of sense. Sure perhaps people like thinking of other uses for it, but it makes a plausible level of sense on a biological level.

Heh, perhaps oddly, I never really thought it'd be put to use on women... Men, perhaps ;) but somehow, it didn't really seem intended for use on women.

As far as breasts go? Well, I quite like the fact that it's difficult to tell one gender from the other. Perhaps you could manage it in other, more subtle ways?
