Ohh, your search is still young! I've heard of stories from my friend's, several times over, where their cats get out for about a week or two at a time and make their way back home. I know it's an unsettling thought, but don't get too hopeless yet. Should try to lure him back with similar scents and stuff outside. Put up flyers, and tell people NOT TO CHASE, but to CALL. Scared animals get disoriented and get further and further away from home or run into danger.
I put out flyers, but I'm still quite concerned. He's an indoor only cat. Rather uncomfortable for the most part. When he's out on his harness he usually cries till I pick him up or sits at my feet. I left my window open for him though. I'm worried that the complex's lawn mowers may have scared him off. Plus we live next to a busy road... and have coyotes, bears raccoons... dumb owners that don't keep their dogs on leashes even though it's county law.
I'm wondering if someone didn't pick him up though, he's ridiculously friendly.._. including to strange animals... which is also concerning.... If someone did I hope they see the flyers. Or take him to a shelter/vet to check for his chip.
I could see that be worrying. I think one of the main reasons people don't get their pets back is because others find them and assume the worst in people! (Someone dumped it, didn't want it, doesn't care, etc), so they keep it. :( And hell, I know what you mean about neighbors without leashes on their dogs! Sadly, in an apartment building, those rules dont matter because we all own the property together. Stupid. After last night, I think even cats should be leashed.. [ http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4663611/ ] Ugh. I hope your boy comes back safe or someone checks his chip. You never know. They sometimes have a strange way of coming back to us.
Yeah, cats should be on harnesses when out in my opinion. Not just for their safety, but for other pets and the ecosystem. I know they're a bit harder to manage in that regard, and without training from a young age they usually won't take to going out on walks. But I had a friend back in my old neighborhood that raised chickens and majority of them killed were by a local stray that enjoyed wandering into their backyard. ( Also got a hold of another neighbor's rabbits. ) ; v; Cats are really cute and precious, but I think a lot of people forget they're incredibly skilled hunters with a high prey-drive.
And poor pup >: Cats can be mean as fuck. If her cat is attacking animals she needs to keep it indoors.
How old is he?
and how long has he been missing?
