Try writing something in a style or genre you haven't explored at all; that's usually what I do.

Base a song off a specific image, or pick an emotion and tell us how it feels.
Design a rhythm based off a spoken phrase.
Use nothing but major chords just to see how it sounds.
Pick the hardest style of music you can think of and try to imitate it. Or use the same idea for a single instrument.
