Ike, aftermath
Well, we just got power back. Took over a week but things are going well. the house is fine and the debris that fell has been cleared so things are getting back to normal aside from the large piles of debris in front of the house. Hopefully the city will pick them up within the next month :/

Glad to hear your alright, How was it anyway? I didn't hear much about Ike after it made landfall in Texas.

well, the storm hit around 10pm and continued for a few hours (I personally fell asleep, so I can't tell you how long it was here) and we lost power around midnight. the damage in my neighborhood was sparse, there was no flooding but there were plenty of trees that fell and lots of collateral damage from wind blown objects. Low lying areas flooded and many power lines were damaged or completely destroyed. Galveston as far as I know is STILL flooded from Ike, and got hit the hardest of all though they aren't letting people in so I can't really tell you much on that end. As for the rest, Power began to flow to emergency locations within about 3 days, businesses (mostly gas stations and food stores) within 5 days, and I got power back on the 9th day. I went back to work finally on the 10th day and am still waiting for my college to be powered to go back and return to class there. If you have any other questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can, I know not much is known because there was no power and believe me, lines for gas stations when there is only a handful with power in the area means a VERY long wait. definitely not something I look forward to ever having to do again.

Yikes, Hope people elsewhere are alright also. I've never personally witnessed a hurricane stronger than a category 2 (it dropped to a category 1 a little bit after landfall) and that thing was enough to knock trees down (one of which fell on our pool) and scatter debris everywhere. Anyway not trying to bore you with my personal experience with hurricanes.

no, not boring at all. it is always good to know the standing of others who were impacted by the storm. Things here are getting back to normal, but I still have friends and co-workers that are without power. I just hope that those who were unfortunate enough to loose their homes in Galveston have fond a temporary place to stay until things begin to return to normal. I heard that it could be years before the island is back to the way it once was, if ever.

It always made me nervous when the power would go out since you can't get in contact with anybody easily after that and you don't know what to expect.I agree with you there, but I'm still a little surprised by Galveston's condition but I guess it goes to show you how unpredictable these storms can be.

Agreed, it was terrible for them there but living on a floating sand bar has those dangers.
