Today is a bittersweet day.

I am two weeks away from graduating from Oregon State University as a mechanical engineer, and I have just received a job offer.

On this day as well my beloved family dog, Boomer, has been diagnosed with liver cancer and possible lung cancer. He is not eating. If the ultrasound finds he has lung cancer, he will die.

I called my family today, and I had another strange event.

My father, a 20 year military officer of the rank Colonel in the USAF said he was proud of me and what I had accomplished. This is a huge honor, as this comes from a man who has sent satellites into space, holds a Ph. D in aerospace engineering with a focus on rocketry. I could hear him tearing up on the phone as he told me how happy he was to hear the news.

Truly, life is a strange place. I cannot control most events, but I can at least affect some outcomes. The rest is up to chance.
