The war's over! (pics included!)
Well, the final war exercise at least. I still got roughly 3 weeks (19 days) of army left, but it will be easy, sitting around, fixing and returning stuff. You can almost call it over.
The last three weeks have been quite eventful and mostly spent camping and shooting. The one called "end war" was a two week camp and I came home last Thursday. This was also the first camp that I brought my phone to so I could at least take some pictures. As luck would have it, I became sick during the last few days of the camp which made it quite physically hard and I still am sick and feverish. Could be my old friend pneumonia but we'll see.
The first 7 days of the camp were as any other camp. We'd do combat exercises like encountering a mine field, clearing it co-working with engineers and practicing the usual stuff that our unit does.
Our camp site was part of a big area where there were many other companies. There were buildings, even sauna and a beach, but we of course sleep in tents as we are supposed to. It's actually quite alright, even though it is a bit small. But hey, it's cozy. Check this little hut out: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....ps2212dfa0.jpg
There were some pretty shitty days and a few easy days. It was sunny all the time. It was a plus in moments like these: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....pscaa4d11b.jpg But a curse when you had to work your ass off in full gear and a heavy weapon.
Friday was our last day doing the normal stuff. We took part in a big exercise that was sort of a show for the higher level officials. Our part was just like 30 minutes and it was pretty straight forward. After that we had to spend hours and hours, I think total of 8 without eating anything just because we had to take a few pictures and wait for some general to come and speak 3 sentences and leave. The view was fine though: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....ps8b00d6f1.jpg
Here are some of our tanks being cared for before the final battle: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....psc026b13e.jpg
And here's me just so you can see what kind of stuff I have to carry around. Most of it useless. http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....ps84abceb4.jpg
I really don't get why we have so much stuff, we are scouts, we are supposed to be more light for easier movement but basically we are the same as any other infantry it seems. And yeah, that gun is big AND heavy. It's fun to shoot but not fun to carry around for miles. The big thing on the barrel that screams 90's is the laser that shoots when the gun fires. We normally have more modern versions of it, but since we were not the "important" unit (We were more of a target, but we still managed to make it to our goals and win our parts) we had these old ones that didn't work with the newer vests at all. At least we had referees who judged who won the gunfights. This army stuff does not suit me at all.
Anyway, when it came Saturday evening, we left for our final settlement. Here's a video of our mechanized unit leaving the camp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEPPIlecxVc
Though just our luck, our APC broke down because the cooling stopped working and the engine temperatures went sky high. We had to pull over to someone's yard for a moment. On the bright side, I managed to find a new friend in the ditch. Meet Bob: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....ps3cf28c0e.jpg http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....ps6a049b70.jpg
We finally managed to drive our APC 500 meters further for a rest stop. It's about 11PM at this point http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....ps5eec15e0.jpg
But again, the view of Lapland never gets boring: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....psa922122e.jpg
So we finally make it to the campsite when they tow us along. This was to be my nest for the next few days: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....psa922122e.jpg
It was surprisingly comfortable.
On Sunday, the battle phase started. It was first 18 hours of action, then 12 hours of rest and then 18 hours of action again. Considering I had become sick, it was extra tiring for me, I really felt like dying a lot of times with the heat and the weight of my gear. At least we had some time to rest occasionally. Again, the scenery was pretty epic. This was taken around 3AM: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....ps606b242e.jpg
Here's a small video of the fighting I managed to capture while I was supposedly dead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLYnGQwinPE
It's not all that exciting looking, but the major firefight had already taken place and it was just a few shots exchanged. You really can't see what you are shooting at in most situations. You see a muzzle flash and you fire at that.
I don't want to write a long story of everything that happened, I got a head ache and I need to go resting.
I wanted to do some drawing this weekend but of course I get sick and I have done nothing this entire weekend. Luckily this all ends in 3 weeks and I can resume drawing and normal activities.
And now that you have seen me in army gear, I don't want that image to get stuck in anyone's mind so here's a few normal images if you really care.
This is before military: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....psc7b3c2b3.jpg (excuse the bad quality)
And this is after: http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums.....ps271f7355.jpg
Yes, our toilet has marine decorations. Deal with it.
Well, I think that's all. I was supposed to do this earlier but never felt up to it before and now I have to do this before I leave again.
Anyhow, you people have a good week and may the wind ever be in your favor.
Regards, Ferobird.
