You do know that without Goons, EvE would be really really boring. Even if you're in 0 space... Unless you're a PVE junkie, in which case, why are you playing EvE? EvE's PVE content is terrible at best, the sandbox nature and open endedness lend EvE to be a PVP oriented game. And that's what Goons do. Grant unexpected opportunities for PVP.

Er.. actually I agree with you, at least about the nature of the game. The people in it are very mean spirited and self interested, and so it's a perfect game for PvP. I was only joking along with the concept that everything was the Goons fault... I don't think I'd ever run into a Goon in my short stint in the game.

I *did* run into a huge fleet of titans from some group or another though. They had put some missiles on sale and were then camping the portal that led to where you needed to pick them up from. I had just been given my first mid sized ship and was pretty happy about it, learning how to make a tankish thing out of it... and then on my way to get re-supplied, got blasted without warning by the very people selling the missiles and then killed in my pod when I tried to leave, even though I had explained I wasn't in "their space" looking for a fight, but on business.

Pretty much lost any interest in the game after that.

It's kinda sad though. I liked the atmosphere and feel of playing in that game. Just the music and the ambiance of it all. I even liked to full screen it and just... look at things. I guess if I were to say why I had kept playing Eve knowing what it was, that was the reason. I wanted that experience of being in space and enjoying it, along with the overall feel of the game, which was pretty cool.

Too bad it's such a PvP based game that you're not allowed to enjoy the environments or do anything without fighting someone else... or having someone else attack you.

I actually kinda agree with you there. Don't get me wrong, I love the way things work in game and most people are actually really really nice in-game. The problem is the game's difficulty. By which I'm not talking the game's difficulty as EvE's pretty simple to pick up. I'm talking about the hundreds of skills that involve interacting with the players. Knowing how to avoid gate camps, what things happen to be a scam, not looting yellow cans, and a dozen other things. Without knowing a lot of that, an otherwise great game becomes exceedingly hostile if you're not paying attention. Personally, I'd love to see EvE get more meaningful PVE content like Sleepers. The bulk of the game's 'content' is player driven: game camps, Burn Jita, Hulkageddon, and so on, resulting in a pretty big slant towards PVP.

Not from the looks of it... SC's just a single-player dogfighting sim with purely optional multiplayer, while EvE's one of the oldest and still growing MMO's on the market. Now Earth & Beyond, that could have given EvE a run for it's money, but EA gave up far too soon.

There's been a sustained attack on Tranquility, CCP had to take EVE and Dust down. They've been scouring their servers clean, no ETA on when they'll be back up.

Even the forums are messed up, the only reliable news feed I've found so far is Twitter.
