My thoughs on the ps4 and xbox one TL:DR
It appears that alot of the people complaining are either PS3 fanboys who are having fun with the "Xbox is doomed" headlines or people who have no grasp on the cost of games. The head of development at Visceral, creators of Dead Space, said at a conference that more people bought a pre-owned version of Dead Space 1/2 rather than a new copy.
That might not sound bad, but to a development company like Visceral, they get no money from pre-owned games, so it's not Microsoft who are getting all this extra money from not really allowing used games, it's the developers and creators. So guys at Gamespot, Game, Supermarkets etc have all this essentially ill-earned money from buying a copy of "The Last Of Us" from Little Johnny for £12, then selling it to let's say, Frank (Why not?) for £40, making £28 from a game which they had nothing to do with.
People are always very quick to complain when a game doesn't get released and a company goes defunkt, or the creator sells out to a sh*tty company like Activison, cause they don't have much money so they can't make their game and the game is released under Activison's rules and it's terrible.
I have no problem with the developers getting more money from me purchasing a new game.
I don't earn a lot of money, I will buy a Xbox One and eventually down the line I will get a PS4, but I will get a Xbox One first, just down to the fact the games announced are incredible (Dead Rising 3, sunset overdrive, MGSV, Project Spark etc) and Ive had their online service since I had my 360, which I think is loads better then psn. And now we get two free games a month, and psn users are gonna be required to pay to play online now, so really that whole psn is better then xbox nonsense is over now.
Fair enough it's $499, you get Killer Instinct included F2P with micro-transactions (it's still a free game, if you complain then remember when BLOPS 2 had micro-transactions and there were little complaints... Or the fact Uncharted 3 has a paywall up the ASS with DLC and other stuff, don't be biased, cause it's Microsoft, it's still a free game) you get Project Spark included and 2 games a month on Gold. So we can't complain, if the Xbox One starts electrocuting me and firing nails at me, then yes I will complain, up until that point, we're fine.
So, we shouldn't be complaining right now, if you want the Xbox One, buy it. If not, deal with it, buy another console. There is nothing so wrong with the Xbox One for this much outcry to happen.
If you're not happy with the price, wait, it may go down.. As shown when the PS3 originally released for $499/$599, it came down in price, but was still a great console, so it was still bought by people on DAY 1 mainly cause it had a BLU-RAY player!
Sony's Jack Trenton just said in an interview that "Sony Games are free to buy, trade. lend and do what you want with. IF HOWEVER 3rd party developers want to impose some sort of protections, that's their choice." And Microsoft's policy is the exact opposite. They say "Microsoft Game Studios Games are free to buy, trade, lend and do what you want with. IF HOWEVER 3rd party developers want to impose some sort of protections, that's their choice and our machine can do that for them"... and it's the end of the universe. So I'm guessing it's in the wording somewhere that this is the end of the world for us gamers? Because- if the people that MAKE the games want to have some sort of protection as to how many free loaders or second hand retailers get to make more profit on their games than they do... that's wrong to give them a tool to do that. Riiiight. Okay. I think I see it now! It's because the 'knee jerk' journalism that hasn't done ANY research at all on the subject is the ONLY sources we should be reading up on! I got it now! OH- AND we should clearly state that NOBODY is going to or ever has bought a game digitally and that those games have the exact same restrictions and always have. But that's different because... that's been happening for years now and THIS is totally new.
I think the whole single trade-in element should be timed (first 6 months) if only to discourage a quick turn-around, but the argument isn't Microsoft piggy bank vs. the world, it's developers trying to survive vs. gamers-who-apparently-never-pirate-and-also-lend-games-out-all-of-the-time-and-trade-in-games-to-buy-new-games.
Oh lets not forget about INDIE games that sony is praising that you NEED a internet connection to even get in the first place. So yeah that whole always online thing with people need to stop, esp when most people have internet at home or can access it from their smart phones via direct connection.
And really if your that afraid of having a Kinect just turn the thing around, it responds to sound, not movement.
Final thought:
You want the Xbox One & all the great games coming soon, buy it.. You want to complain and say "You're changing to Sony, cause Microsoft are just after my money la la la..." change to Sony, you're either a Sony fanboy (which I have no problem with, I prefer Microsoft), you like the new games which Sony announced (by the way Kingdom Hearts 3, Elder Scrolls Online and Final Fantasy is coming to Xbox One aswell), or you really like complaining and you're going to be one of those people who complained when Call of duty BO2 came out and you will end up playing the game day 1.
FA+

I probably will not be getting an X-Box One, and I'm saying this as a diehard Microsoft fan who loved the 360 to death. There are just too many things wrong with it, in terms of design decisions, for me to really feel good about buying it.
I'm sure many people will get an XBOne, yourself included. I choose not to support the games industry going in this direction. Games should be a product, not a service. Otherwise it's only a matter of time before every game is like some stupid cellphone app, asking you to pay for health, ammo, and weapons.
Console wise, I'm leaning far more towards the PS4.
and meh, ps4 simply dosnt have good enough exclusives to warrant my purchase, xbox one has Dead rising 3 which alone made me want the system, now that FFXV and KH3 are gonna be on xbox one that eliminated my interest in the system.
However, I'm just not going to buy the X1 for personal reasons I've outlined time and time again, even if they do change their policies their attitude and arrogance is just as bad.
Sure, I'll be losing out on exclusive, but that's what I get for sticking to my guns and morals. I'll miss Halo 5 since I enjoyed 4 so much,
Yes, I have a PC and yes I have Steam, and other online distribution software. At the same time, these are vastly different distribution and DRM models then X1 is using so please do not even try to use that as an argument or defense with me.
As for the Playstation 4, they've already outlined what the developer can and cannot do with their "DRM". Sony has gone out of their way time and time again to explain that nothing has changed since this generation, all of the processes and procedures we're used to will remain intact, for better and for worse. Publishers can place a code/drm wall infront of content, not an online pass or anything that cuts off the online portion, but just removes portions of the game from normal use and play till they purchase the pass/unlock. This was used in games such as Kingdoms of Alumar, Rage and Batman Arkham City.
Finally as much as companies bitch and moan about used games and "Gamestop" the #1 used game retailer in the world... they're all in bed with the company at the same time. Why do you think Gamestop is already a "Microsoft Certified Reseller" of Xbox One games, before the system has been released. Because Gamestop sells 70% of all the new game sales in the world, and ONLY 20-30% of Gamestop's business and income IS used game sales (I have the numbers to back this up).
Skip to 2:53 and it vividly illustrates what Publishers and Developers do to appears GameStop and make sure the retail chain will go out of its way to promote their games, even though they vilify and bitch about the company behind its back.
