Need a new Computer (need help)

so I think this computer is on its last leg. I have been meaning to get a new one but I dont know much about hardware or building computers. Any smart techy people out there?
One of my friends said a good gaming computer should run art things smoothly. I dont know the difference between a good gaming computer and a good computer for art.
I need to start looking to buy a new one or having one built. I want it to be able to play modern games smoothly but it doesnt have to be THE best at it. Just something that allows me to play them without difficulty.
Also I was talking to someone about getting a full Terrabyte worth of memory as well.
Anyone know much about this? also if you are good with tech i wouldn't mind any advice to make my current one last longer.

As motherbords do have built in graphics if your doing art you sometimes want to get a GPU (videocard) the motherbord ones are alright but not the best for art all the time besides basic or for the modern games.
I dont go for ati usualy go for amd instead for most of the parts as well for the cpu. i got an 8 core and its a bit overkill for me here. if need be just ask what you are looking for and what type of hardware you prefer and i can give you an estimate on how much it would cost you to build one yourself, they are actually easy when building from the manuel.
For the harddrive i got a 3tb, but to use that it must be partitioned and have a virtual drive just to access it all so 2tb is highest ill say you want to get. you may be able to use your old harddrive in the new computer as well with another harddrive for extra room.
