Haha, I watched the first couple episodes and gave up. Definitely a downgrade from the first two seasons. I can't imagine seeing this as a kid - it would have totally scarred me forever...I still can't watch The Fox and the Hound >.>

British cartoons are almost always cynical and/or blood curdlingly horrifying.

I've been sure to steer clear of the Watership Down film, though I loved the book. I did see The Plague Dogs a while back, which of course was devastating to me as well. Though difficult to watch, I can certainly appreciate a children's cartoon that's gritty and realistic, especially when there's enough thematic depth to also engage older audiences.

As far as blood-curdlingly horrifying cartoons are concerned, though, I think Felidae takes the cake. There are moments in that film that are truly terrifying. That said, it was never meant to be a kid's movie.
