Okay, what the FUCK is going on with politics?

Brazil: Massive Nation-Wide protests and riots caused by, among other factors, monetary focus on the World Cup and Olympics instead of the well-being of the populace
Venezuela: Massive protests and riots caused by unjust elections and violation of democratic rights
United States: Texas state law passed despite being voted on after a deadline and being protested by both the people and a state Senator. Protests at the senate growing, and law enforcement called in. - The Voting Rights Act of 1965 has been declared inert in the US i.e people of color can be barred from voting. - Nation-Wide bill, Proposition 8, will be voted on tomorrow which will affect the future of same-sex marriage in the US.
Australia: Leadership ballot being called in 2 hours for the third time during the Prime Minister's leadership as to whether or not she will continue as leader of the ALP, her party.
United Kingdom: Government will ban Church of England and Church of Wales from offering same-sex marriage.
Greece: Trans people and sex workers are being rounded up in concentration camps
Russia: Government creating anti-homosexuality policies threatening the safety of all LGBTQ Russians.
Honestly: WHAT?!?

As for the United Kingdom, this is less a ban and more of a requested exemption from the legalization of gay marriage, given that both the CoE and CoW saw "legal gay marriage" as "being forced to marry gay couples" and thus requested a way out of it.
The Russia and Greece business has been around for a good while, with the earlier being mocked by westerners when seeing gay parades being bashed by both neonazis and the moscow police. The latter is more of a measure to keep "undesirables" out of the streets, to renovate their tourism policy. You can thank Truman-era anti-communism measures for the creation and mechanisms that lead to the Golden Dawn and the way it popped here, not to mention JP Morgan and other banking companies from chipping away the anti-fascist measures the Eurozone has.
As for Brazil, you have to consider that there was a great push for this given how a few years ago, Brazil was on a major economical growth, and there was a major push from the FIFA and the Olympic Council to push for higher and higher costs. You might recall that part of the reason Greece got into that mess in the first place was a lot of investment on the Olympics. Now that there's smaller economical growth, the idea of spending more money on futebol is horrifying, hence why we are noticing a whole lot more protests.
As for the US, the bill was successfully filibustered and the voting rights ordeal was impaired rather than taken out. Keep in mind that a major thing being quoted for the reason was the "colorblind, today we live in a post racial society" business.
Tumblr wasn't that much of a hand with that topic, seeing as shit was hitting the fan with the online feminism protest (Which I admit to not understanding all that well)
Hearing how Russia & Greece are being mocked for their views on their anti-gay views, this kinda reminds me of how South Africa's continuing Racial Segreagtion in the early 90s (Correct me if I'm wrong on this...) were heavily judged and criticized by the more "Sophisticated" countries.
Also, to follow up on the Australian story, Julia Gillard's lost her role as the Labour group's leader (As well as Prime Minister), which also means she has to retire from politics.
Which is a massive load of bull.
The whole Greece part thing is a bit more complicated and it was just one town.
