DOMA is dead!! *celebrates**throws rainbow cookies everywhere*
Edit:
Well I guess that it contained two parts. I found a clarification thingy that was posted on Facebook.
But hey, at least it's a step up!
(The clarification note I found off 'Have A Gay Day''s page:
"To Clarify What Has Happened Today:
DOMA was not "struck down" in a complete sense; only a portion of it has been ruled unconstitutional.
The District Court ruled against the United States. It held that Section 3 of DOMA is unconstitutional
and ordered the Treasury to refund the tax with interest."
That means that as far as federal benefits are concerned, same-sex couples
legally married in a state have equal federal benefits.
However, "DOMA contains two operative sections:
Section 2, which has not been challenged here, allows States to refuse to recognize
same-sex marriages performed under the laws of other States."
So we have made big steps today... but the fight continues.
