On Gender and Physical Sex
If you were approached by a mysterious (but, for the purposes of this hypothetical scenario, trustworthy) individual who offered you the chance to undergo a procedure (again, assume it is 100% safe and guaranteed to function) that would painlessly and permanently switch your physical sex - all primary, secondary, tertiary, etc. sexual characteristics - but with no possibility of ever reversing the procedure...
Would you take the offer? Would you even consider it before rejecting it? Keep in mind, this is a full sex swap. A new female body will menstruate. A new male body might develop male-pattern baldness or the like. You get the bad from the new form as well as the good.
I cannot honestly say which I would choose...or if I would regret it later, if I chose to take the plunge...but does it say something about me that I'm wondering about this at all?
(Wish I could just find some Jusenkyo water. That'd be cool.)

There are certainly problems, not the least of which would be convincing the government. ;) I would almost certainly contact the local university for tests to identify the process by which it was done. After all, this violates current physical laws, so knowing about it would help us understand biology and possibly even physics better. Shining the light of science on it would not only be a good idea but my duty.
I might end up regretting the choice. But I try not to let POTENTIAL regret stop me from doing something that I deem either desirable or necessary. I know females in our society have a low grade institutionalized sexism leveled against them, with transgendered experiencing a high grade version, plus a number of biological indignities, so I believe I would be entering into the situation with open eyes. I still feel the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
I like the way you're approaching the question...still not sure which option I'd go for.
Hell, given the option I'd be like Mystique or a D&D changeling. A different body every day, male or female as I please...sounds good to me.
I mean, I can understand people who are 100% certain they're not transgendered, and 100% certain that they are. But how does it work for people in-between?
Unfortunately, I'd be useless as far as getting any information from the "kinda trans" crowd, as the closest I come is a preference towards playing female characters in RPs, which has nothing to do with how I actually identify myself.
So, for you, alternate question: what would you think if I wound up getting randomly zapped into a physical girl?
What really hurts is getting hit in the testicles, and it is that kind of black and throbbing, nauseating pain that makes you want to lay down and not be alive for awhile.
no amount of anything in the world, if i could mute female 'issues...' maybe i'd do that, but i wouldnt change sex
