Summer Conscription Camp!
So … I just found out that I’ve been (randomly) chosen for conscription to the country’s ‘National Service’ program. Where … you apparently learn how to be a better citizen. At boot camp. By doing boot camp activities. … We Malaysians really don’t know what the F we’re talking about most of the time.
Anyways, I’ve been told from the internet that the program itself isn’t terrible, asides from major hiccups every now and then (like death or otherwise a major incident). However, I was bummed out when I was pretty much told that I’ll be gone to the next state (probably even the next peninsula) for 3 months at the start of next year (probably, but sometime next year guaranteed). Doing boot camp activities. To learn how to be a better citizen. … this. This part really brings me great dismay.
And no, I cannot refuse unless I have a really severe handicap (severe health issues, financial difficulties, lack of limbs, etc.) I’ll either go, or be sent to jail. Yes, it is a federal crime to not report yourself to this program.
I just hope the government is sensible enough to understand that you don’t need to go to boot camp to be a better person/a more understanding person/ a patriotic suck-up and scrap it out of existence like the brown stain that it is in the (really) near future. Preferably before I report myself.
Honestly though, I did felt like punching the computer screen in mixed feelings.
