"So... You ever been a puppet before?" Just for record no matter if you say yes or no to this, they will still recruit you. I, like my wife, am a sucker for doing things for the kids. So when they needed someone to fill the part of "Buzz" the little purple skinned boy puppet, I fell for it. The shows are educational, and my audience is 2 and 3 year olds, so they actually like puppets. It's not so bad... It's just weird.
I've heard the phrase "puppet integrety" more than I care to ever hear again. A fancy way of saying, "You're stuck with it now!" It means they think the kids would be confused if the voice for Buzz changed a lot. They all seem a tad too serious about it, but who knows? Maybe in a couple of months I'll be the one advising, "The eyes on Buzz's head are a little higher than the others, so make sure you angle your wrist just a little more down so he's looking directly at the children."
And i'm not even gonna tell you where my hand is going...

You should also have an easy time doing the puppet mr. toy balloon.
I apparently passed the trail-by-fire. They wanted me back next week right away. But I think it was also due to the fact they have a severe lack of guys puppeteering.
anyway, sounds like a fun thing to do. I for one wouldn't have the patience for it, so extra kudos points to you.
as for change of voices, children seem to know it's not real but dive into it as deep as possible anyway. and a sudden change in voice destroys the suspension of disbelief. I mean, look at the kids watching anime, as soon as some tiny detail changes they all go BAAAAWWW like someone stole their breakfast cereal. or worse.
as for your hand, I have seen Folkmanis with equally suspicious entires for the hand-that-bites. or something.
Yeah, I guess you're right. I know I was told you have to say when you have colds or anything that might mess with your voice. It's really crazy.
Very true. Though the Folkmanis dragon I have you put your hand right between the wings, which is nice... Dangit! You got me to admit I own a puppet! Sneaky lion!
that first paragraph, it sound sstrange, but I think it's a great accomplishment. like telling a story where the audience dares not to move because they are so involved... so, somehow you ARE a master.
