One of the things I love about your humans is that they're not all "anime" with pointy faces and gigantic googly eyes; they're actually very structurally realistic and accurate, with distinctive facial features and varied body types, but are still very distinctly in your personal style (which I love). It's that they are simplified but not excessively so. Oh by the way your talent with skin tones is glorious and makes me a smidgen jealous.
I think the only thing that has ever "bothered" me about your art is the occasions when something you've drawn is subtly or not-so-subtly disturbing/unsettling, though that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Tips, I guess:
Do two layers for shading, one for the base, then one for all of the really dark darks, apply only in areas where almost no light should hit, or to bring out shiny/reflective/metal/wet surfaces (increased contrast = shiny looking surface) I brush in some darker stuff in areas like under the chin, armpits, folded over pants creases, etc.
Use both hard and soft brushes and blend them into each other. As a general rule, shadows have harder edges nearer to the object that's casting them and softer edges further away (or as light hits less of an object as it bends away from it, like around from the top to the bottom of a thigh)
And just REALLY think about your light source. Its not horribly criminal to not have a totally defined light source, you can fake it, but it really helps when you DO know exactly where your light is. Use refs for just lighting/shadows if you need to.
You are totally on the right track and you've gotten better at it over time already just from what I remember, you just need to keep pushing it. Most of your stuff just looking through your gallery now could handle the opacity of the shadows being upped a bit. Also remember that you can do both drawing in shading AND erasing it. If something is looking TOO dark at a darker opacity but erasing it all away kills the volume, I get a really big soft brush set to like 10% opacity and just start erasing out. Then drawing back in a bit if need be. And erasing more. Etc etc.
